went Europe to Asia the long way earlier this year AMS-DTW-HKG all in steerage, followed by a train, a taxi, a ferry and a bus. Came in right around 40 hours IIRC.

About 36 hours door-to-door travel time (if my math is correct).
PNI-TKK-GUM -> NRT -> IAH -> ORD Left hotel at 10pm or so PNI time Had 7 hour layover in NRT, went downtown for lunch. Arrived home from ORD around 8pm the next day Two in-flight overnights (PNI-TKK-GUM and NRT-IAH) in one calendar day. A bit over 20 hours in the air. |
Newark -> Chicago, 7 hour layover. Chicago -> Heathrow, 7 or 8 hour layover. Then Heathrow -> Singapore. Total time: 24ish?
Probably not as long as other people have experienced, but not an experience I'd like to repeat. My original itinerary was Newark -> Tokyo -> Singapore, scheduled to fly the very day after the earthquake. I'm always thankful that I hadn't decided to fly out a day earlier... It worked out okay because I ended up flying SIA instead of Continental/United on the Heathrow/SIN leg :) happy mostly for the nostalgia factor. I prefer CO. |
San Martin de los Andes, Argentina > Neuquen via bus (8 hrs) > Mendoza via bus (16 hrs) > Santiago, Chile via bus (6 hours) > Dallas via plane (9 hours) + 12 hour layover > SLC (3 hours) = 54 hours.
Except for the 12 hour layover in Dallas, there was never more than two hours in between legs and I just made my flight out of Santiago by about an hour (enough time to take a much-needed shower in the LAN lounge!) All in all about 54 hours of traveling without a bed. Luckily the busses were pretty comfy. All the bus travel was because I neglected to notice that the morning direct bus from San Martin de Los Andes, Argentina to Temuco, Chile (where I had a direct flight booked to Santiago) did not run on Sunday mornings as it does every other day of the week and thus would not make it in time for me to get to Temuco for my flight to Santiago or Dallas. I won't make that mistake again! |
I got one...IAH-LAX-SYD-BKK...IAH-LAX layover of 7 hours (In-n-out time :D) LAX-SYD layover of almost 10 hours, then onto BKK, I think total time without being in a hotel is about 44 hours

Well if train trips count as well... I did this padded itinerary once to squeeze maximum mileage out of a planned trip to China from Canada.
Flew YYC-YEG-YVR-SFO-PVG-PEK in Y Probably about 24 hours in the air, another 8-10 on the ground Airport Express from PEK to Dongzhimen Station in BeijingSubway from Dongzhimen to Beijing Rail Station Total about 1 hour from the airport Train (not a nice new train) from Beijing to Jilin West Station. (fortunately I got a sleeper)~18 hours, plus 3 hours waiting for the train Train from Jilin to Yanji (hard seat was all I could get!)~6 hours, plus 1 hour waiting for the train Train from Yanji to Tumen (hard seat on a very slow train, fortunately it's not a long ride)~1.5 hours, plus 1 hour waiting for the train All this for a peep at the China/North Korea border and a visit to my relatives who I'd never met before. Needless to say, once I was back in Yanji I took a CA flight back to PEK to get out of there. (Washrooms in hard seat class get very dirty in the last few hours of a 24-hour route) |
I routinely (as in a few times a month) have trips involving several consecutive days without an overnight or bed on the ground.
I'm not sure what my longest such period would be (over a week for sure), but for example this 4 week long series of trips with 146,000 flown miles involved just 6 nights on the ground. 2 of those nights were at the start of the report, and some were for just a few hours (late night arrival and early morning departure). |
Longest I've done (and it resulted in my getting quite ill) was Chicago to Orlando to Denver to Seattle Washington.
With layovers, 29 hours with absolutely no bed rest. Nodded off for an hour or so on one of the flights. I'd never do it again. And don't ask my why I did. Life is full of choices. I've made some bad ones. :confused: |

For us nowadays.. Its been to Hawaii via one connection from YYC.. makes for a long haul day for us..
But I have flown to Singapore when I was a little kid.. so the flights over a couple days would add up.. |
Pretty much every one of the trips you all mentioned either start or end in Canada. Either Canada is extremely cut-off from the rest of the world, or Canadians just like these crazy trips a lot.
