Driving from Neuchatel to ZURICH - MIAMI ( 5 hour layover to visit with friends ) - RIO (3 hour layover ) - FORTALEZA.

Total 35.5 long hours.

A shower and a beverage in the Admirals' Club in Miami was helpful.

Arriving in 30C heat & 76% humidity FORTALEZA, I almost jumped in the pool, clothes, luggage, and all, rather than head upstairs to our condo. ( Rimowa might not have appreciated a wet luggage case claim as valid, so I showered, took a nap, and THEN swam for one hour, leaving the case out of the pool ).

This one to be done next summer is our longest one:

YYZ-DUS-FRA(whole day layover)-BKK(whole day layover)-SYD(whole day layover)-ADL

Just a bit over 60 hours. Fortunately, most segments will be in F. And we can take showers in the F lounges at each layover.

Some of you guys are CRAZY!
My longest is my fairly usual BLR->FRA->YYZ->YYJ, which is 33 hours in transit, but due to the flight leaving Bangalore at 3 am, there is another 21 hours out of bed time before I even start the trip. And I usually manage to stay awake for another couple of hours once I get home.
So I'm saying 56 hours out of a bed is my longest trip. Tickets ALWAYS booked in Y (woe is me :) ), sometimes I get lucky on the AC flights.
I have found that with enough sensory deprivation equipment (ear plugs, eye mask, blanket...) I can sleep almost anywhere. And when you are starting at 3:00 am, it is easy...

SFO - KIX - BKK - SIN
About 12 hours to KIX
6 hour layover in KIX
Another 5 hours to BKK
6 hour layouver in BKK
Another 2 hours to SIN

Total Time Spent: 31 hours

The one I immed recall is earlier this year: LHR-MAN-(meetings)-LHR-ZRH-HKG-CGK.

About 10 years ago I did a RTW in 6 days: YYZ-YVR-SEL-TPE-HKG-DEL-KHI-FRA-YYZ.
All were stops for meeting except YVR and HKG. Left on a Sunday, back home on Sat.

My longest was NBO-ADD-FCO-IAD-MCO. About 30 hours from airport to airport. The weird part was that we landed in FCO to refuel and change crews but passengers had to stay on the plane.

And I thought my BUF-LAX RT in 26 hours was a big deal...

Cattle Airlines Oct 18, 2011 12:43 pm

I traveled over 2 days without seeing a bed once.

Day 1 (let's say it was a Monday)
Night 1: overnight ferry to Morocco
Night 2: red-eye flight back to the UK
Night 3: slept at home but the time zone was 5 hours behind

Estimated time out of bed on day 1 (Monday): 7 a.m. GMT
Estimated time in bed on day 3: 3 a.m. (Thursday) GMT

68 hours without seeing a bed, no shower, probably looked like a hermit.

CPT-JNB-LHR-DFW-AUS (Cape Town - Johannesburg - Heathrow - Dallas - Austin)

About 25 hours of flying, all in Y. Somewhere over Canada I really wanted to get off the plane. Especially crappy as BA and AA were showing the same movies, so nothing new on the AA flight....

ATL-JFK-LAX-HKG-BKK

Man, was that exhausting. The shower upon arriving in our hotel in BKK was much loved

or, maybe it was: LAX-JFK-LHR-NBO - again the shower was awesome!

A couple long trips by air:

1. ONT-LAX-NRT-SIN-NRT-LAX-ONT. 6 hr turn in coach. Made UA 1K and got 5X RDM's. Sweet!! A long time ago back in 2002-03 in coach. :(

2. LAX-SYD-MEL-AKL, staying 4 nights, then AKL-MEL-SYD-LAX. This was in Biz so more comfortable. Fare was $600ai and with bump vouchers, cost me approx $200. ^ Someone asked me why did I fly to MEL to go to AKL. ;) That trip also helped me make UA 1K. Also back in 2004.

Car trips:

Drove straight from Southern CA to VYR via Seattle. Was one tired person. That was when I was much younger & had little $$. Did the same in reverse. After using upgrades/coupons the rental car only cost $107ai for the week. ^ Of course, it had unlimited miles. :D

I've done a couple of (more or less exactly) 48 hour MRs without leaving the airport.

YYC-DEN-LAS-SFO-EWR-MHT-EWR-SFO-LAS-SFO-YYC
This was the most torturous 48 hours of my life. I had a ridiculous same-day turn in MHT which I made thanks to a couple of favours from the pilots. Come to think of it, that was a same-minute turn! :D Ran off one plane and on to another right as it was closing. Return EWR-SFO ended up getting routed through Canada and took 8 hours... in Y. Later, the RCC staff in SFO didn't even notice that I actually boarded a plane for LAS and came back. :D

YYC-YVR-SAN-SFO-EWR-BWI-EWR-SFO-SAN-YVR-YYC
I was more prepared for the torture trek ahead of me this time so it went much better. Being in AC C for YYC-YVR-SAN in both directions helped too.

LAX-IST-HKG-YVR-YYC
LAX to YYC via... the rest of the world. LAX-IST-HKG was pretty comfortable, I don't even want to think about how much travel time that all was. Probably around 48 hours including layover time, but they were long flights.

Wow! Some of these trips are unbelievable. My wife won't fly DFW-SYD because the flight is too long.

In 1996 my friend and I drove non-stop from Denver to Atlanta. Spur of the moment we thought, let's go check out the Olympics. Got in the car, about 24 hours later got to Atlanta. No stops other than gas and bathroom breaks.

Then 3 days later drove back non-stop as well.

Last year I did a mileage run LAS-SFO-PHL-TPA-PHL-SFO-BOS-IAH-SJC (all in Y). Got on the plane at 15:05 on Wednesday and got off the plane 19:45 on Friday (almost 53 hours). There were obviously some connections which gave me 3 or 4 hours to relax but it was two overnight flights back to back and I didn't leave the airports.

I could never sleep on aircraft until I did that run ... now I can quite happily fall asleep within minutes of getting airborne ... I suppose it was worth it (though never again!).
