I did that once when someone did not want to move... and guess what, I got first class. That other passenger was so peeved... they quickly said "Oh wait, I will take that seat." The flight attendant politely said "Oh, I would not want you to have to get up and move, you are apparently too comfortable to move when you knew you had the wrong seat... just stay there...". It was priceless.
I hope I never forget this tidbit!! Priceless!

LOVE "wharvey"'s post! This is priceless! Also, you were now a whole cabin away from the squatter!^
I also love the idea (if made to sit in the middle seat) of many potty breaks. That may make her reconsider future "squats".
Though, if the squatter's original seat was the middle seat and she was simply moved there, next to you, I'm guessing the relocated squatter would have made that 3 hour flight most uncomfortable for you.
Anyway, you were a REALLY good sport and should not have been taken advantage of like that.

The other thing that I have done is said something (after I verified on my boarding pass) that "My Boarding pass says 19A... What seat does your boarding pass have"? That way if they did make a mistake, they can move or if they were poaching, it gives them a way of "saving face".. And if there are duplicate seats assigned or they don't move... talk to the FA... At that point you know which seat they were assigned to sit in...

I think some GAs/FAs side with whomever screams the loudest..

I once seen an FA help someone steal someones exit aisle seat. PAX from the back of the plane came up and asked if he could sit in the exit row (there was an empty middle), the FA who was right by the exit row said sure. The aisle pax got up to let him in but the new person said "Oh I can't sit in the middle". After a lot of back and forth and the FA just staring at them the original aisle pax just moved in the middle. Her only comment was "Oh, it's a short flight anyways..." ...??

I have had poachers that I made move out of my seat do this. Get up every 5 minutes for no apparent reason. When this happened to me last summer in F on a USAirways flight, I took some ice cubes out of my drink when she was gone and put them into her purse.

It may not have been mature, but trust me, she richly deserved it. It began with her sitting in 2C (my assigned seat) instead of 2D and when I confronted her she said "You snooze, you lose!". I kept staring at her and she moved. Then when the FA came around to take preflight orders she ordered an Arnold Palmer. The FA started to tell her they did not make that anymore and she cut the FA off with "Just ....ing make it, the last one did". Worse, when she got the drink, she handed it back saying it was too sweet and told the FA to make it again. She got on her phone and made a point of saying to whomever she was speaking that "This dork" (me) "Came late and made me move..so rude". Then the constant getting up started...to mess with her bag in the overhead, to go to the bathroom every 5 minutes. She's lucky that ice was all I dumped into her Louis Vitton bag. I had considered stomping on the bag a few times too.

"pinworm" you just made me laugh out loud. It's obvious your seatmate was having a bad day (I choose not to believe that people are truly that overtly self-obsessed, entitled etc - though deep down I know they exist, I simply ignore them) and wanted everyone else to join in her misery.

For about 3 years I rode a commuter train to work--one of those routes where there are only 3 trains in the morning and 3 at night. ...and I can tell you that people like that definitely do exist. Those rail commuters make air travelers look like saints.

You're right of course. By the way what are 'neeners'? Can I google it?

Hmm.. How old is she? Sounds like one of those mid-20s and having a midlife crisis because her boyfriend dumped her or he got cold feet just before marrying her. With that kind of attitude, she's lucky having you as a seat mate..

Bad day? Sounds more like a bad week at least..

But on commuters you can't reserve a specific seat..

I feel strongly that if she refuses to move at the first order of the FA, no further order or discussion should be had and she should be escorted off the plane by security/cops

A friend of mine was flying from Japan to the U.S. and a Frenchman simply refused to get out of his seat. He finally told the FAs that if they could find him another seat with an empty seat next to it that would be fine. He ended up sitting in the back of the plane instead of near the front of second class. They were going to have the guy taken off the plane, but my friend just didn't want to hold things up.

BUT, at the time Northwest was serving no free drinks (even on international), but they brought him plenty of free beer. So he got about $30 worth of free beverages and good service.

He later saw the same French guy raising holy hell at the connecting airport Crown Room or Worldperks Club insisting that he should get in because of his "status." He didn't seem to be having much success.
