I agree that it sounds like she was joking, but there is a very fine line when joking on an airplane. They can joke with us, but we take risks joking with them, because they have power over us, and we never know how they are going to take a comment made in jest. Or, for that matter, how they would react if we misinterpreted one of their joking comments.
Keep the mutual respect high, keep the jokes light and obvious, and it's all good.

The FA was not joking in regard to moving me to a different seat. I figured it was because the FA thought I was bothering my girlfriend (even though our playing was mutual). She did not know that the woman sitting beside me was my girlfriend. In the second case, the FA was not joking because my girlfriend was reading a magazine at the time and the FA wanted me not to disturb her.

I also gotta say, my bad experiences has been with UA.
I'm usually very good about turning off cell phones before the door is closed. One time I was actually in process of turning it off when an UA FA in her 30s probably came over and told me to turn it off in a very rude and stern manner. I said that I was in process of turning it off, but blackberrys have a 5 second delay. She then stared at me until it was off before she left. I then noticed there was at least 3 other people still using their cells and she didn't seem to notice any of them.
I just find UA people very non-service oriented, even though I'm almost exclusively UA now, due to E+ and their routes and *alliance. Maybe it's because I fly them the most that I remember the most faults.
Southwest has been a mixed bag too. They keep their personalities and sometimes they're not good personalities. At least it's who they are I guess.

I do feel bad that you seem to have such bad luck on flights. Between FAs insulting you and "meddling in your business" and (in your other thread) passengers who refuse to move to accommodate you and your girlfriend, I'm surprised you haven't given it up in favor of rail or sea travel.

I guess you're right ShrinkRay since there are people like you who can't interpret a thread properly. Since you have nothing relevant to add to this thread (I've left out your other comment), I presume you never had any negative experiences with FA's.

Try as I might, I can think of only one minor incident with an FA, in which she forgot she had not given me change for a Chinese note on a transPac flight, and was a little rude about it. It was quickly straightened out by the purser, who offered me a Skykit, for which I thanked her but refused as unnecessary. Now, if you want to talk gate agents or customer service reps, I've got stories, but in 20+ years of frequent flying, though I've encountered great FAs and indifferent FAs, I've never encountered an FA that I felt any need to complain about.

I don't really have any bad experiences but when I flew to Hong Kong last year, the switch to call over a FA was on my armrest and I kept hitting it accidentally while trying to sleep. The FA gave me a few evil looks but I apologized everytime lol.

You would be correct. I've never had a problem with any CC. If I had, I would have handled it in the appropriate manner, beginning with speaking to their direct supervisor. But there's been nothing worth complaining about.

Many years ago when I was in College, I would fly home every fortnight to see the family (I was 17)
The plane was a 40 seater Saab from memory and used to do a regional run. One FA, flight left from the tarmac etc
Anyhow, I was never questioned or looked at any differently each time I flew, though i was always the youngest on the plane by at least 20 years and the rest of the PAX seemed to be government or corporates flying to the same destination as me.
One particular day as i was going up the stairs of the plane, the FA looked me up and down like I had the plague and shouted something to the effect...Why was I on the flight, I didn't look old enough to travel, where were my parents etc etc (you can fly here in Oz without an adult at around 15 i think)
It gave me the greatest of pleasure to tell her that yes I was old enough and in fact that day was my 18th birthday (which it was) She didn't utter another word, however the Deputy PM of the country was seated next to me and brought me some lemonade to celebrate !
Probably the only time an FA made me feel very uncomfortable regarding her attitude

I agree. However, different cultures and individuals within them approach humor differently and we need to be extra flexible both when trying to be funny and when interpreting someone's trying-to-be-funny comment.
