Most expensive ticket 2011 edition

I have a challenge and was wondering what is the most expensive ticket (after taxes /surcharges etc) in the world given the rise in airfares to pre-financial crisis 2008 levels. Apologies if this has been done before, please direct me if there is a link.

The rules are:

1. Can be one way or return
2. Must be on the same airline metal
3. Maximum connections allowed : 1 (e.g. transferring in the airline's hub)
4. Airfares need to be normalized to USD for direct comparisons.
5. Must be able to purchase directly through the airline (to avoid artificial fees).
6. Please list dates

One of the most expensive I found was in First on Emirates from LAX to SYD return, connecting in DXB departing March 4 2011 and returing March 9 2011.

Price: $27,708 (only)

Any others?

Thanks!

Wow! But I meant flights that don't leave our stratosphere.

Update: LAX to AKL via DXB in Emirates departing March 4 returning March 9 in First.

Price: $29,936 (who pays this??)

Yikes..That's high ...but....it has to be on the same airline metal. Last I checked US Airways doesn't fly to SYD.

You might find some information in this thread:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trave...ne-ticket.html

Coincidentally it also has the words "most expensive" and "ticket" in the title, and was easily located using the search function.

Thanks! Maybe the moderator can merge the thread. Not surprisingly, the ticket prices are even higher than 2010.

$26,191 - JFK-HKG-JFK on CX F, departing 10/12, returning 10/19.

When thinking about things like this, I restrict the search to non-stops or directs. High-priced trips with connecting flights can often be purchased cheaper by using another carrier or buying two separate tickets

In your example, no one in their right mind would fly LAX-SYD via DXB, since it's longer via DXB and there are non-stops between LAX and SYD. However, I could see "sane" people buying this fare if they intend to stop over in DXB and continue on to SYD.

Interesting topic as always.

The rules seem to imply that all flights have to be on the same metal. Maybe it would be clearer if you just said "no codeshares."

True.

But this is FT.

I once flew JNB-LHR-FRA-ORD-SAT when I could have flown JNB-ATL-SAT.

Just found EZE-CDG/ORY-RUN for $31,206 on AF. All dates return the same price.

If I was paying this much I'd expect a helicopter transfer between CDG and Orly.

Lufthansa.com

NRT-MUC-FRA-GRU-FRA-MUC-NRT

July 25 - July 29

$42353.29

$40,412 on AF through CDG

Just read the rules of the challenge and realized the LH fare does not qualify.

It can be done on 2 flights. DXB to AKL is direct (single flight number) with a transit stop.
