I have a challenge and was wondering what is the most expensive ticket (after taxes /surcharges etc) in the world given the rise in airfares to pre-financial crisis 2008 levels. Apologies if this has been done before, please direct me if there is a link.

The rules are:

1. Can be one way or return
2. Must be on the same airline metal
3. Maximum connections allowed : 1 (e.g. transferring in the airline's hub)
4. Airfares need to be normalized to USD for direct comparisons.
5. Must be able to purchase directly through the airline (to avoid artificial fees).
6. Please list dates

One of the most expensive I found was in First on Emirates from LAX to SYD return, connecting in DXB departing March 4 2011 and returing March 9 2011.

Price: $27,708 (only)
