Flight Delay Insurance - obtaining a written statement

Hi all,

I've been reading through the certificates of insurance for the coverage that comes with my MasterCard. For the flight delay insurance, one requirement is that I forward to the insurer a "written statement from the airline confirming and detailing the delay." How would one obtain such a statement? Have you had success in getting such a statement in circumstances where you had to file a claim? Did you get it after the fact from the airline's corporate office or from an airline employee at the airport at the time of the delay?

Thanks!

I was held up by the BKK airport takeover in 2008. My insurance policy also required some kind of statement from the airline confirming the delay. Since the news was quite well known, Eva's ticket agent who changed my flights, just initialled the new flight schedule with a statement "Flight cancelled due airport closure". That was good enough for the insurance company.

I think any reasonable explanation signed by someone in the airline is good enough for insurance purposes, so long as it's true.

Sounds like a standard sentence issued by the airline is suffice. Phone the insurance company to make sure.

Insurance contacting Airline?

Had to go through a claim process due to the post-christmas New York City blizzard. Contacted EK and was told that they do not issue such statements. The phone rep told me that usually the Insurance company will get in touch with the airline to verify the claim.

She, however, sent me the "updated" itinerary that I ended up with and asked me to send in this one with the original itinerary as a comparison.

I am still waiting for a respond from my insurance company. 30 days processing time. Heh...
