Does Egypt check for transit visas?

My wife is an Indian and will be connecting to a flight to India. dl.com says a transit visa is needed.

I would check with the Egyptian embassy in your country and/or the embassy in Delhi. It also probably cannot hurt to ask the Indian embassy in Cairo.

Are you reading the correct information? Here is what I get:

National India (IN)
Transit Egypt (Arab Republic of) (EG)
Destination U.S.A. (US)
ALSO CHECK DESTINATION INFORMATION BELOW

Egypt (Arab Republic of) (EG)

TWOV (Transit Without Visa):
Visa required, except for Transit to a third country within 12
hours, provided passengers are:

- continuing their journey; and

- holding confirmed tickets; and

- not leaving the airport (no hotel accommodation is available

at Cairo Airport).

Additional Information:

- Nationals of India must hold onward or return tickets.

Deportation will follow if not holding onward or return tickets.

I just checked delta.com and see the following:

"National India (IN) /Residence U.S.A. (US)
Transit Egypt (Arab Republic of) (EG)
Destination India (IN)
ALSO CHECK DESTINATION INFORMATION BELOW

Egypt (Arab Republic of) (EG)

Visa required, except for Holders of a U.S. "Permit to
Re-Enter" (Form I-327), providing the country of birth is
Egypt.
Additional Information:

Deportation will follow if not holding onward or return
tickets."

May I know which website you used?

The same as yours. Most of the airline website visa sections are drawn from Timatic and are identical, anyway.

I did not input that your wife was a US resident, since it was not evident from your post, and that is why our results are different. It does seem strange that a visa would be required from an Indian national who is a US resident, but not from an Indian national who is not a US resident.

In any event, it appears from this site (I don't vouch for its authority) that:

Egypt does not specifically provide an airport transit visa, and all those continuing their journey within 24 hours may enter the country if they have valid onward tickets and do not leave the airport transit zone.
