Snoring emergency

So I am stuck in a hotel with thin walls. I snore, apparently rather loudly. Don't have a CPAP machine. The hotel is mostly full.

Well, my snoring is apparently waking my neighbor, who is loudly pounding on the wall to wake me up so he can get some sleep. Only that now leaves me awake, so when I fall asleep... well, it's a vicious cycle, isn't it.

While I understand my neighbor's issue, I too need to get some sleep. This has been going on for a couple of nights so I need some to function tomorrow.

So what do I do for tonight? I can try and find a new room tomorrow morning, but I need to get through tonight with some sleep. I am already sleeping sitting up in a chair instead of on the bed to try that, I have a fan, going to try and see if that helps me.

Get HOTEL MGMT involved. Also if you are like me, 6'3" 270# of Workout Muscle. You dont want me banging on your door asking "IS THERE A PROBLEM OR DO WE NEED TO STEP OUTSIDE & SETTLE THIS"

There could definetly be a PROBLEM for you, when the other party, once outside shows his weapon of choice or gives you a brief demonstration of the fruits of his training in a martial art.

Exclamation

I can empathize with both you and your neighbors. I can't help you for tonight, but when you get home do yourself and everyone that sleeps in the same vincinity a huge favor.

Order yourself an appliance called pure sleep. http://puresleep.com/

My husband USED to snore just as badly as you do. I started sleeping in our spare bedroom with a white noise machine or a fan running. He tried everything known to man as far a anti snore products, pillows, nasal sprays, pills, etc. Nothing worked. I thought I was going to go mad and we always felt exhausted until he bought this product. He has never been overweight, so that wasn't the problem. He has NOT snored one night since he started using it and we now sleep in the same bed again.

It used to be awful when we traveled. I would end up on the bathroom floor of whatever hotel we were in with a pillow over my head. It was useless trying to wake him to sleep elsewhere. He was about comatose when he snored. That did not make for a great or romantic vacation either. If this appliance doesn't work for you then I would suggest talking to your doctor about a sleep clinic. Sleep apnea is a very serious condition and nothing to mess with.

I have no affiliation with this company, but to say this product saved the both of us is not too far from an exaggeration. I almost still can't believe that for twelve of the thirteen years we have been together (married for five of them) that we both had to endure his serious snoring problem.

I hope you find a solution soon. I hope my advice helps you. I thought things were hopeless until he bought this inexpensive product. Best of luck to you.

I used to have this problem which was worse when i had a cold.

You can try tennis balls, strapped to your spine. This only works if you sleep on your side and you don't snore that way. Its essentially an obstruction to prevent you from sleeping on your back. You can use alternatives but it has to be somethign that won't crush under your weight.

The instructions guide at the website says this thingy is "not a treatment for sleep apnea" nor for those who "have chronic asthma, emphysema, or any other severe respiratory disorder". I think for something such as snoring which can be attributed to different causes, it's important for the sufferer to ascertain the cause before attempting the treatment.

Yawn, another internet tough guy...

What I would do, and have done in this situation - I would just call the snorer's room instead of banging on the door. It wakes them up, stops the snoring, and avoids confrontations.

I only need you to stop snoring long enough for ME to fall asleep. Once I'm asleep, you can snore to your hearts content.

For now, go to the pharmacy and get some "Breathe right" nose strips.

After your trip, perhaps see your doc about portable options

That's a foolish response. This attitude has gotten a lot of people in serious trouble, especially when they underestimated the skills and knowledge of the skinny 5.5 person in front of them.

Agree 100%. Cloudship, when you get home, talk to your doctor and see if a sleep study is in order to rule out underlying medical causes for your socially disruptive snoring. After that you can determine how best to treat it.

It seems to me it is a reasonable expectation that a hotel has thick enough walls to provide protection against loud snoring. Both you and your neighbor should be complaining loudly to management of the hotel about the inadequacies of the walls. In the mean time perhaps ear plugs for both of you is the only workable solution. Him so he doesn't hear your snoring and you so you don't hear his banging. I don't like listening to loud snorers either but it seems to me you have a god given right to snore in the privacy of your own hotel room.

What's a "5.5 person?"

I understand what you are saying, but the OP doesn't say that he has any type of disorder. I wasn't saying he has sleep apnea, I was suggesting that since he doesn't say he has apnea, that he may want to check with his physician if this appliance doesn't work for him. He just may have it and not know it. I know my husband had never been diagnosed with apnea and snored like a trooper.

Just ask to move to a different room. You don't really need to say why. Make up any reason. The hotel will help you.

By the way, you may or may not need a CPAP. While most sleep apnea sufferers snore, most people who snore don't have sleep apnea. Snoring MAY be a sign of sleep apnea, but there are plenty of people who saw away all night. A long period of uninterrupted snoring would likely mean that you do not have sleep apnea. You just snore.

There are treatment options from basic to severe. The easiest thing usually is to lose weight. For most people that helps or fixes the problem. There are more serious ways of addressing it including surgery, but any surgery brings with it problems.

The OP should take an online sleep apnea test and see how he/she does. Then follow up with your GP or make an appointment with a sleep doctor. This is VERY important to your long term health.

And a person banging on my wall in the middle of the night is a STUPID THING to do also. I agree my response is done out of anger & such. But sometimes you must confront Bullies with force. They usually back down. And I can protect myself to a degree. Also I only stay at hotels with inside rooms so less likely to get Gangbanga types.
