I'm already aware of that site, and I've used it to fill in the missing information for my flights since mid-2005. It works very well for domestic flights, but it does not have data for international flights, so it is of no use to me as I try to finish off my last nine international flights.
Flight was DL 3447 MEM-ORD on 3/8/10, on a CRJ-900 |

How do you find tail numbers on this site?
Under "detailed statistics," click on "departures." Select whatever stats you want; I usually just choose "Scheduled departure time." Choose an airline and origin city. Choose a date, or multiple dates. Submit! Depending on the parameters of your search, you may end up with only a few flights or a few hundred. If needed, use ctrl+F (or the Mac equivalent) to search for your destination airport code to narrow down the results. You can then use the scheduled departure time, or whatever statistic(s) you selected, to confirm that you've found the right flight. Hope that helps! |

Besides international flights, the holes in my airplane registration data are:
Midwest Airlines flights Comair flights from the mid to late 90's pre-1995 domestic flights It's too bad that there seems to be no way to track this information down at this point in time. |

Alternatives to www.flightmemory.com??
I was pleased to find a site that could esily map flight information.
But the data input is slow! I can type and enter fast but it's the occasional lagtime in processing... after 200 entries - I can see a cool picture -- but I've got another 1500 flights and am not keen on hours of inputting - just not worth it. I've got everything in a good excel sheet (thanks to importing much of the old Northwest worldperks info and reformatting it...), but I'm also not keen on spending over $100+ on just having them 'import the data. That to me is just too much I just want get a chart and the chart pricing is high but OK, but the cost to import it too pricy - and I'm at the point of looking for an alternative. Has anyone in the community seen any other entity that can map this and possibly produce a high-end pdf or jpg?? I've looked through this thread and seen some - but are there any that do the charting as a service? Thanks! |
I gradually input thousands of flights from 40 years, and am very glad I did. The data base is very functional, so if you later wonder where you were on a given day, or how many times you've been to a given airport, it's easy to find. After inputting, I went through month by month to make sure that the data was reasonable, i.e. if I had one flight that was MCI-ORD, and then the next flight that same day was LAX-HNL, what's up with that?
The maps that you can buy are great. My advice is the bigger the better. |
I've been using FlightMemory for a few years now and love it but lately it's been sow slow I can't stand it. 25 seconds to open and view a flight! No matter the computer or connection. Just a few months ago I could add a couple flights a minutes and now it's just crazy slow.
Anybody else having this issue? |

To commemorate my 500th flight (which I know is chump change compared to some of you), I'm thinking of getting the poster. Here's my map:
http://my.flightmemory.com/LoganFlyer I'd like to get the full world map, not just the North American one. As you can see, there's a lot of clutter in the northeast US and in Central Europe. Does anyone have experience with how good a job do they do with the poster for this kind of map? And any suggestions for the size I should get? |
We've now bought 4 posters. Originally Mrs. P bought a 32x48 international and I got a 32x48 domestic. Then I got a 20x30 international, and most recently an updated 32x48 domestic.
Based on your map, my advice is to get a 32x48 international. Mrs P. has 700+ flights, and I just looked at her poster, and you can easily make out the domestic flights in addition to the international. (On my 20x30 international, the US is almost solid yellow, but I can see the international routes. Note that on the 20x30, the airport codes do not show up.) |
How do I enter I flight that returned to the same airport (for whatever reason) 40 minutes after takeoff? I have captured the flight path from FlightAware so I could (if needed) enter some way points or determine the exact miles "flown." Any thoughts?

Congrats on your 500th flight, LoganFlyer. ^ I also noticed you are currently 1 post away from 1K on FT. An early congrats on that as well. :D  |

Another great resource that I discovered when I joined FT! I just wish I kept my boarding passes/itineraries from years back so I can log all the aircraft types!

Once you have the tail number use the Production List Search on this site to identify the aircraft type.http://www.planespotters.net/Production_List/index.php |
Is there anything similar to flightmemory to keep track of hotels one has stayed at?
|
It would seem FlightMemory now gives "EconomyPlus" as a travel class option. This is new as of the last couple of weeks. I went back and changed over 90 or so of my UA flights
|
Guys what is giving me a considerable headache is the lack of tail number information online on non-US flights.
Some of them I have been able to trace back through libhomeradar/acarsd (this is a unix project of amateur flight enthusiasts that pick up plane beacon signals and log them), but there are quite a few tail numbers I can't retrace. Do you know any other way or would it be worthwhile mailing the airlines with the question to have a peek in their history books? |
Isn't there a DOT site that logs the tail numbers of historical flights?
I've never bothered to track tail numbers (enough work to keep up my flight memory as it is!) so I forget what the address is and exactly what data it contains, but I seem to recall discussion on FT about it. It lags by something like 6 months, though, IIRC. |

I'm having trouble pulling it up right now, but I think you're thinking of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) website. Among other things, it does list tail numbers, but only for US airlines, and domestic flights only. It does lag at least a couple months--I think it has data for March or April right now.

Searching for international flights
A couple sites where I've been able to find tail numbers on int'l flights. I think these may be linked earlier in this thread but it won't hurt to share them again...

Kinda curious how many of you all here label your FM entries ... if you fly domestic first, do you label it as First? Or as Business? Because then I fly international business (which is miles ahead of domestic first) and feel bad that it's labeled as a "lesser product" in my FM.
Then it gets complicated because I fly transcons with business classes that are better than domestic first classes. |

I wish the domestic carriers would rename their premium cabins to something like "Domestic Sub-Par Business" to make it easier to compare them with real premium cabins, but for now, I do as CMK10 does. |

Anyone remembers where I can this generated? I'm pretty sure it was a link on FT with data extracted from Flightmemory... Unless it's Tripit?....

iPad input issue on FM
Anyone other than me having a problem inputting data on the Flight Memory site using an IPad?
I am using the 8.02 IOS update. I can get the airport codes into the page but when I get to the date of flight I can only get the first date box to enter the correct date using the pop up calendar. After that I can no longer get the web page to respond to my touch, causing me to abandon my effort and wait until I return home to, my now ancient, Windows XP laptop. I did send an email to the site asking about the issue but was advised that they don't have a IPad to assist me. 😥 |
