Availability normally gets re-checked by the airline at the time the actual booking is made. It shouldn't happen often, but there is a potential possibility that the airline will not confirm the booking, even though the availability screen says there is availability. After the booking is confirmed by the airline, availability no longer matters.

I should have added in my original post, that i normally use Amadeus/AUA. Never mind.

the reason i asked is that what shows up on Amadeus doesn't quite reflect what's actually available for sale on a specific routing/date pair. e.g. a SIN-BLR-SIN towards the end of June shows up as :
[KVS Availability Tool - Amadeus: AUA]

Whereas, what's available via singaporeair.com seems to be a full fare Y.

Then the availability you're seeing is accurate. However, there are currently only 2 economy fares published by the SQ, and the EEA fare has some restrictions:

LH Award Booking Classes

It appears that LH's award booking classes (O/I/X for F/C/Y) are now showing in Sabre and other GDSs (and are available to KVS Tool users for viewing).

However, this is most likely a glitch, so enjoy it while it lasts ... :)

Please note that the US-NY POS setting in Apollo: ITN/CWT is no longer valid. If you have been using that POS, you will need to select one of the other POSs from the list.

Fares in EUR not available through Travelocity.de ?

Using KVS 1.5.0 full, when attempting to retrieve Fares in EUR through KVS tool, I receive "Object not found" in my IE or Firefox. Fares in GBP from travelocity.co.uk works fine, same for USD from travelocity.com

Anything I'm doing wrong here ?

Thanks
Chris

Forgot to mention, it was working fine like two weeks ago or so.

Unfortunately, fares in EUR are no longer available. Fares are still available in CAD, USD, and GBP.

Anyone else having trouble using Amadeus/AUA? I am doing flight searches when I know for a fact there are multiple daily services, and it is coming up saying that there are no flights operating that day.

Changed to monthly pricing I see (effectively?)

I would agree. Looks like "Gold" is $2.50/month with a minimum buy of 6 months and "Platinium" is $5.00/month with the same minimum buy. That's a "contribution"? Sounds like a subscription fee, IMO, which is fine.

I'll have to tell my cable operator I no longer want to subscribe, but I'll be happy to contribute .

KVS Feb 25, 2006 1:47 pm

gpan, inlanikai: That was not the intention. I am just trying to ensure the continued sustainability of the Tool, and reward those who support the project. The Tool requires periodic (if not constant) maintenance, and the contribution/access level structure has been modified to reflect that reality.

It is also not a "fee", as many registrations were (and will continue to be) issued on a discretionary case-by-case basis, taking into the account individual circumstances. Lastly, no contributions are necessary for the Lite-tier access.

Based on the PMs I have been receiving over the last few days, the overall user response to the latest changes has been very positive. However, I appreciate your feedback on this issue, and always remain open to making changes, based on users' concerns and suggestions.

The System Code is never entered by the user and cannot be changed. If you just PM me with your System Code, I will re-issue you with the correct Registration Code ASAP.

I have no doubt this project is a major effort for you and understand the change in policy and appreciate your efforts. Just thought the use of the word "contribution", since it was used in the past, was a bit curious now under the new structure.

KVS Feb 28, 2006 4:35 pm

The "Interpreting The Results: Factors that can affect availability" section in KVS Availability Tool FAQ, Part 2 has now been updated with additional info on POS/Segment Marriage Logic/Journey Data issues.

oliver2002 Mar 2, 2006 9:11 am

Sorry, I don't like your new 'enhancement' in terms of fees/month. When I upgraded from lite to full I was actually disappointed but said nothing since it was a one time recognition of the effort you put in. Now if I'm expected to pay each month the KVS tool is no longer worth it.

sadiqhassan Mar 2, 2006 11:13 am

I think that the tool was very useful and well worth the money. Would it be possible to keep the old version in order to avoid paying the monthly fee?

Cheers

I am sorry you feel that way, but the "effort [I] put" into the Tool is far from being a "one time" effort. BTW, do you also feel "disappointed" by the fact that LH and SK didn't grant you lifeitime *S/*G status and expect you to re-qualify on a periodic basis :)?

Once again, I would like to say that I am trying to ensure the continued sustainability of the Tool, and reward those who continue to support the project. The Tool requires periodic (if not constant) maintenance, and the contribution/access level structure has been modified to reflect that reality.

If you really feel that the nominal contribution amounts are not "worth it", just let me know, and I will be happy to provide you a with a [short] list of commercial services that you could consider using instead...

Having said that, if you are an existing user and would like to comment on the new policy, please contact me privately via PM, as I will be dealing with these issues on a case-by-case basis. Furthermore, the primary purpose of this thread is to serve as a FAQ for the Tool users. When this thread starts getting too many OT posts, many users don't have enough patience to read through it, which, in turn, makes them contact me via PM with questions that have already been answered here.

KVS,
Thanks for this tool. I sent you a PM earlier today requesting a registration, and also would like to support it. Very useful by the looks of it, especially if you are on the go as a non-rev employee!

How often does it typically take to get a response back for registration?

Best Regards,
Cameron

While the new pricing is substantially higher, I think the value is there. However, if we are talking about $60/year for Platinum, that really is a subscription. And if I use this for work (as I do), I'd like to be able to do a proper subscription purchase (rather than a "contribution") -- with a clear price and a proper invoice to go with it.

So, to me, apart from the tool itself (which I find very valuable), now that you are going for a serious subscription model, I think you need to reconsider your infrastructure, and allow secure online purchases (rather than moneybookers or often-non-functional Amazon contributions), and provide email contact addresses for support and sales issues.

Sounds like you should just use ExpertFlyer, plus it has the added benefit of some hidden classes.

Why should I? I like KVS ... I would just like to have an easier process for paying for the subscription. ExpertFlyer still costs more, and has no perceivable advantages for me.

Thanks for some very constructive feedback, tomh009. However, the Tool is intended for personal use of FT members, and, at this time, I am really not in a position to make some of the changes you mentioned. Perhaps, one day, that will change...

Recently, a 'contact via e-mail' functionality has been introduced (by way of a large HELP button in the Tool), and contributing members are welcome to contact me that way, if it is more convenient for them.

cfischer Mar 3, 2006 5:14 pm

KVS,

why does the new version have 3 tiers now? I used to be able to pull PNRs and search for fares, both things are not possible anymore. I really like the tool, but the Plat fee is about what expertflyer would cost. No problem at all to contribute to a great project, but loosing features just by hitting the upgrade button is not what I like to see.

KVS Mar 3, 2006 6:17 pm

In short, because there was a demand for such a tier from a number of users...

There have been no changes to the availability of the fares module in the new version, i.e. it is still available at the Gold (formerly Full)-tier level. Please contact me via PM, so that I can figure what may have gone wrong during the upgrade process.

Actually, if you wanna look at the contribution levels in this manner, the suggested contribution amount for the new highest ("Platinum") level in KVS Tool is the same as the monthly fee for the lowest ("Basic") level in EF.

As I mentioned above, you should not have lost features during the upgrade process. The new level is meant to be a way to further upgrade certain users, and not to downgrade existing Full-tier members.

Version 2.0 -- What's New

Welcome to Version 2.0 of the KVS Availability Tool. Based on users' suggestions & feedback over the past year, a number of new features have been introduced, and the registration policy has been revised.

What's New in Version 2.0:
  • Advanced Filtering Options: You can now filter the displayed results in real-time by specifying requirements, such as "availability required in classes X or Y", "only flights on airlines XX and YY", "only Star Alliance/OneWorld/SkyTeam flights", "no codeshare flights", etc. You can also chose which booking classes you want to see, and in which order.

  • New Seatmap Options: You can now view text-based seatmaps, even when the flight is full and a dummy booking can't be made.

  • Operational Flight Info: Is now available for most airlines via Amadeus-TG.

  • My Trips Manager: You can now save your commonly-used routings for quick retrieval.

  • PNR Manager: Is now integrated into the Tool, and features a [Comments:] field.

  • Calendar: A pop-up calendar is now available.

  • Gridlines: Have been added to the results list for easier visual reference.

  • New Website: The KVS Tool Website has been completely re-designed.

New Registration Policy:
  • There are now 3 registration levels/tiers: Lite, Gold, and Platinum. Please visit the [New Access Level Structure] page for details and eligibility guidelines.

  • For a quick visual demo of the Tool's features, available at each level, goto [View Screenshots].

  • The previous Full-tier registration level is now known as the Gold tier, and, if you are an existing user, the Tool should automatically recognize your previous registration. In the event that it does not, please let me know via PM.
  • To verify your registration level and expiration date, after installing the latest version, click the large orange [Registration] button, and then click [Re-Register].

[Download Version 2.0.3 Now].
Important: If you have recently downloaded V2.0.0, V2.0.1, or V2.0.2, you should still download V2.0.3.

How about at least accepting PayPal? I think in reality many of us are flying for business ...

Will there be a way to check subscription status, either in the software or on the web site -- the level and number of months remaining? And what happens when the gold/platinum subscription runs out? Does the software become disabled, or does it drop back to the base level?
