ITA Matrix Search: http://matrix.itasoftware.com

You can sometimes see flights, fares and detailed fare rules that may not be reflected on an airline's website. Please read the thread for some tips and tricks, screen shots, etc.

A related thread, ITA-Matrix-PowerTools - Userscript for Orbitz/DL/UA/AA/BA/CZ/IB/LA/LH/LX/TK, discusses a user script which is maintained by fellow flyertalk members to enhance the already powerful Matrix of ITA Software by providing new features and booking links.

Additional details and tips on the use of ITA's advanced routing code feature can be found in the following long-standing Mileage Run Discussion threads:

Hi,

Its a POS restriction and we cant see the I class for all your flights. I have software that checks the main POS and its not quoting on that either.

if you change the flight number, and delay the return by 24 hours, its available.

I was just going to respond in kind.

@Sisyphus1carus ... it take some work to set up the power tools but in the end they will save you an enormous amount of time and work.

Sorry if this has already been answered, couldnt find it.

How do you search for stopovers in Matrix?

i.e. I'd like to find the cheapest way to do LAX-NBO r/t in J for 14-21 days sometime starting 7/21/17 with a 5-7 day stopover in either CDG or AMS in either direction. I can search for that with a multi-segment search but have to try each date combination manually.

If you have any background in software and scripting it should be a piece of cake. But if you don't have a tech background, you might need assistance. Let us know if you need help.

You can try multi segment search with calendar view.

How? Are we talking about the "See calendar of lowest fares" option? This only appears in the round-trip and one-way tabs in my matrix, not in the multi-city tab

Same for GoogleFlights and just about any OTA and meta-search engine I can think of.

Yep! If that does can't be made to work then you need to either use a TA or do a series of multi-city with differing day combinations, recording the results.

Most fares that allow stopover (more than 24 hours) in general also allow 5-7 days (some exceptions allow only 3 days, but you'll see this in the fare rules).

You can use the calendar search option of round trip, specifiying AMS,CDG / minconnect 1440 as advanced routing code (of one direction, I guess) to search for stopover > 24hrs.
Theoretically you could specify 5 days times 24 hours times 60 minutes (minconnect 7200), but I wasn't successful with these kind of searches.

Once you have a good candidate fare and starting date you can finetune the stopover length.

JFK-ORD with added segments

Maybe my methodology is wrong... but I'm looking for flights with extra stops between NYC-ORD to beef up on Delta MQS.

Just got new role in my company which will require heavy travel to/from Chicago.

Currently I search matrix for flights departing NYC and arriving ORD, RT, with the top 100 US airport list added to the advanced routing codes (removing ORD, JFK, EWR, LGA). I toggle the option for up to 2 extra stops.

This search keeps erroring out.

Any advice?

Thanks

I'd recommend only inputting delta hubs (LAX, SLC, MSP, ATL) or trying DL+ as the advanced config. The max miles permitted (MPM) may make this difficult.

Awesome - thanks for the quick reply. Playing on Google Flights I was able to get 6 MQS for only about a $45 premium

Type your routing string as DL DL DL+

That will ensure at least three DL flights.
