Printer software conflict?

I have a weird problem with printing photos or PDF files on this laptop.

I have the same model multifunction printer scanner in both the US and France (Canon MP530).

In the US, I connect to the printer wirelessly (the printer is connected by USB to a PC on my network). I did not install the printer driver on the laptop, but I did have EasyPhotoPrint installed as well as Adobe Photoshop Elements and CS2.

I have absolutely no problems printing photos or PDF files in the US or using any of the Photoshop software.

In France, the printer is connected to a USB port on the laptop, and I have installed the printer driver.

When I try to print PDF files, it takes upwards of 2 minutes before the print dialog box appears.

EasyPhotoPrint hangs and won't print at all.

Elements hangs and won't print.

CS2 is very slow pulling up files and won't print.

Printing directly from the My Pictures folder is very slow.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and EasyPhotoPrint twice.

I've uninstalled all the Adobe software, and then downloaded and installed only the PDF Reader.

No improvement.

Canon suggests downloaded a new driver, which I'm willing to try, but I'm not clear on how I make sure that I'll be using the new driver and not the old one.

You should just be able to download and install the newer drivers.

At least with XP, if you print the test page, I think it gives you a list of drivers/versions that it used.

It might help to tell us what kind of laptop it is and what software (especially OS) you're running. I couldn't find that anywhere in the post. Likely causes with Linux, Mac OS and assorted flavors of Windows can be quite different.

Were both printers purchased from the same location or was one purchased in the US and the second in France? Even though you are using the same model (Canon MP530) printer Canon does make changes to the printer software for each country based on what flavor of Microsoft software that is imported to that country.

One purchased in US, one in France. However, I've not installed any software for the US version as I connect to it wirelessly. It's software is installed only on the US PC.

If you are using the same laptop in the US and France and the identical printer in the US and France then you HAVE installed the printer drivers "In France, the printer is connected to a USB port on the laptop, and I have installed the printer driver."

Normally, printer drivers will either overwrite or uninstall the previous version. Another option is you can roll back to a date prior to installing the printer drivers, however, this will undo any other software installations.
