Extracting a LAN cable

My laptop feel deeply in love with a LAN cable and is now refusing to allow it to get out of bed.

How does one extract an unwilling LAN cable from a laptop without damaging the LAN port in the computer. The LAN cable I'm not at all worried about, its the expensive laptop that I want to keep using.

The LAN cable is sthe standard sort, with the rubber covering piece that shields the plastic clip that holds the cable into the computer. The plastic clip depresses all the way, but the plug will not budge from the LAN port. Are there any options other than violence and a Leatherman tool prying it out?

Make sure power is off and the other end of the cable is unplugged. Get a tiny screw driver or even a needle and try to press the plastic clip with the needle, deeper than you can with your fingers. Then, pull the cable.

If you're still unable to extract the cable, pull it out with the clip attached. All you'll do is break the clip on cable. Nothing should happen to the LAN port if this is done correctly.

IS the clip worn so that when you press it fully, it's still not depressing all the way, forward of the tab? Do you have access to a small screwdriver to gently stick in above the tab to try and depress it further/farther forward of the tab? I can't really think of anything else that would be getting caught, keeping the cable in.

The rubber covering is completely pulled back, right? Sometimes the rubber can hold the clip in place even though you think it's down all the way.

You might actually push it slightly back in and then press down on the plastic clip again and pull.

Remove the rubber shield from the clip. Depress the clip as far as you can. Apply increasing pressure by pulling on thr cable until something fails.

It will most likely be the cable.

The cable is brand-spanking new. The clip should not be worn, so I'm really not sure why it wants to stick. I'll have to try to find a small tool set so I can try the trick of depressing the clip further. The rubber 'molding' is making it difficult to get full access to the clip.
