Wireless Bridge
My company laptop is not configured for a VPN connection over wireless, and the configuration is locked down. This becomes a problem in hotels that only have wireless in the rooms. In one hotel I visited recently, they solved the problem with a small bridge that plugged in to the RJ-45 port and used the USB port for power only. Very small and portable, and it worked great.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the name of this device. Any recommendations for something similar? I really liked the USB power thing as it kept me from being tied to a bridge plugged in to the wall. I'd love to have one of these in my bag of tricks for future use!

Belkin makes one:

If you go to their support page, and look at the manuals, the v2 version comes with a usb power cable and supports WPA.

I poked around the Belkin site a little and found this one: http://www.belkin.com/support/produc...en&pid=F5D7233
This looks like a winner. Works as a router or an adapter. Looks small enough to throw in a briefcase too.

The one I'm using right now is a Dlink Airplus 900 AP+, about 2-3 years old. Works as an Access Point, wireless repeater, OR as a wireless adapter with an ethernet connection to the host PC. I use it in the last mode, as I can attach a directional 10db gain antenna to it and "reach" from my guest cottage to an access point in my house. Not the most portable in the world, as it runs off AC power, but it does work very well.
