Please post back your thoughts about the TyTN compared to the 650.

One issue to me is one-handed use, which would seem awkward at best with the TyTN.

Does anyone know when it'll be available in the LA area? Also, as far as I know, no phone manufacturer has made a quadband GSM + dualband UMTS phone, right?

That's exactly what the TyTN is, it's actually quadband GSM+TRIband UMTS. Very important as Cingular runs HSDPA at 850Mhz in some areas.

OH. So is this the only one so far? I'm actually a little surprised that Cingular isn't advertising this as much. I'm also not seeing that introductory price of $20/month for unlimited phone-based data access. Should've taken that offer up. Sweet deal.

They won't give you the $20 plan on a TyTN or any other PDA device. Only on SmartphoneOS based devices. The TyYN needs a $44.95 PDA connect plan.

I somehow managed to get the $20 plan with my 8125 (HTC Wizard). If I upgrade to a HSDPA device, will it run at the blazing speeds without any changes, or do I have to have Cingular activate it somehow?

You shouldn't have to change a thing but the speeds through the wap.cingular access point may not be as fast as through the isp.cingular accesspoint. The wap one has speed limitations on it of around 350kbps...

I was there shortly after they turned up the UMTS network and was last there in Sept. I constantly achieve 800Kbps+ speeds in Vegas. Be advised, if you get a Sierra U860, you may not want to use the Cingular Connect software. Cingular had an issue forever ago that still hasn't been corrected where their software will 'be confused' by the multiple networks (former AT&T and Cingular networks) and may not find 3G service or will hunt between the two and show no service for extended periods. I moved to the Sierra Wireless watcher client which is far superior and allows me to lock the card to UMTS as I wish, so I can't say if it's still happening but it was a massive problem that Cingular could not resolve at the time.

Fantastic!

just wanted to be on the list of TyTN Lovers - got mine on Tuesday and think it is truly the best I ever had!

Sitting in Toronto now and not having a UMTS network isn't exactly nice though

Anybody know if you can use mobile-skype with the videocam on it? (While connected to a WLAN of course)
