How long before IE has tabbed browsing?

Most users of Firefox say that the tabbed browsing is one of the best features. How long before Microsoft matches the feature? Will it be in a "Longhorn" edition?

It's suppose to be in "Longhorn". Longhorn is now going to be called "Vista" btw.

IE7 has tabbed browsing

If you are in the MSDN program, you can get access to the IE7 Beta.

I have it and it is very nice. It works on Windows XP as well as Windows Vista.

IE7 beta can be found online, tabs are pretty much the only thing improved in it.

Too late. Microsoft has lost me to Firefox. IE sits on my puter only as an emergency backup for the occasional site (like marriott.com) that won't render properly in Firefox.

Agree 100%.

Microsoft has lost the battle. It is just a shame the Mozilla can't get more people to come to them...

I can't for the life of me figure out why people use IE. Security is appalling and the functionality was braindead 4 years ago.

As popularity of a product increases, so do the security flaws.

Me as well. And in addition to tabs, with Firefox you also get extensions, that can add virtually all the additional functionality you could want. Can't see MSIE catching up in that area.

If you want to have the msn toolbar, you automatically get the tab browsing for ie7 (the beta). I've found it very buggy and unstable.

Another ^ for Firefox.

this is a great point. The open source community recognizes and publishes the flaws, which are fixed in no time. Contrast to a monthly "patch Tuesday" where you really don't know what you are installing, nobody's looked at the source code outside Microsoft, and you have no peer reviewed community looking at the code.

I really think Microsoft is doomed. And I'm not kidding. This is just the beginning...

I still used Mozilla suite and I have been delighted with it. Everyone assumes everyone uses Outlook, but I haven't in years. Mozilla has an excellent email client and I use ACT! for contact management anyway. By avoiding IE and Outlook I have I think successfully avoided any spyware and virus issues (knock on wood.)

It is quite shocking that Microsoft's standard browser is so poor.

I now use IE almost exclusively, but I used an earlier version of Netscape with tabbed browsing. I don't get why tabbed browsing is better than having muliple browser windows open. Crtl-N gets me a new window, Alt-Tab switches windows. What am I missing?

Given that 90%+ of MS's revenue is generated by the Windows/Office monopoly, and given the current state of linux/gnome, etc. I'm not too worried about MS's prospects over the next 10 or so years.

Remember the vast majority of people out there are 12:00 flashers. They wouldn't know a tab from a window. How are they supposed to install linux?
