Sadly, even though I have paid enough in tuition to own at least 25 of those computers, I do not own any of them. I've tried installing this on several computers around campus, but they're always gone the next day. The only work around would be to ask someone in charge to install them, but some lab technician at a university got sued for doing this very thing (except there was a monetary prize involved). I'll try to find a link to the story.

F.Y.I. The charges were dropped.

The concept of Folding@Home is noble, but hardly worth risking one's job!! IS guys can be a bit hard to convince. I'm having difficulty convincing some friends that this is not some malevent spyware.... Anyhow, if there's some safety in numbers - obviously Stanford U is the backer of this, and here's a link to a top 50 team - Mississippi State http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/m...&teamnum=11675 They are managing just fine w/o losing a job!

Looking forward to 05, I believe this thread will be seen by just such a person- someone who controls hundreds of networked computer at a library, university, high school, or of course good ole business. They will add such muscle to this group it'll be unimaginable. Where are ya?

Take care all & have a great Thanksgiving. Airports look a bit nasty today..

I'm resigned to being caught :D Your 7 machines are catching up overall!

And PercussionKing, are you sure you cannot configure your 60 computers to somehow do this?? You'd be the man if you could!

Here's what's going on. Hey, anyone from FT got access to the servers?? Don't want to slow down our board...but... maybe they have some idle processing time too?

Welcome to the team roundtheworld! Being in the top 5% with so few participants surely means we have state of the art equuipment. Well, except for my limping old headless tower.

I'm back in the lead! Whoo Hoo!

NM Dec 2, 2004 7:06 pm

Great to see the team participation is growing. Now if I could just get this 2500 frame WU to finish in less than 3 days I might make some progress! This WU has been crunching for over 2 days already and the PC has been running constandly. Maybe my FT surfing has been slowing down the Folding :p .

Just saw we're over 400 wu's, birdstrike's back in the lead, and we have a new contributor. OneMileHigh, is that the name ROUNDTHEWORLD chose, or do we have yet another one out there?? Anyhow, glad to have you. Percussionking, seems like you figured out the technical glitches in having the computers shutdown everynight?

Must be a sign i've lost my mind. Requisitioning pc's @ work for next year, my second thought was "wow, another machine I can put this on!".... We're not competitive, are we??!!

I'm still only using 3 processors but they keep giving my home computer easy WUs. For instance, they gave me a 25,000 frame that took as little as 1.7s/frame at times and up to 4s/frame.

If you re-install, they there's an option in there to take bigger WU's

... which I either have set, or am a statistical anomaly!

My average work unit size seems to be a lot bigger than everyone else in the FT Teams.

Anyway, my 2GHz Power Macintosh G5 seems to do a reasonable job. :p

That would be me. I joined earlier in the week after seeing this and a related thread. I only have two machines cranking away at this. I will try to get a third going this weekend.

Flyertalk logo - web based?

I know this is trying to be way too slick, but.. I see that we can add a logo to the stats page that we all view (too often if like me). I have tried as the administrator to mickey around with it, but very briefly. Seems like you need to add a webpage address that has the logo graphic. We could easily cut & paste, but that won't work. Anyone with some time want to check it out & let me know how to do this? ^

Many thanks!

Steve

The address for the FT logo would be http://www.flyertalk.com/images/ft_logo.jpg

Not sure if you would need permission to use??? But I don't see any problem changing the team homepage to point to FlyerTalk.

SteveinSTL Dec 4, 2004 6:18 pm

worked like a charm!

Worked great, thanks NM! It's on there for all to view. Can I assume that somebody would PM me if there was an issue with this? Let's see the numbers grow - 429, with Birdstrike showing some dominance!
