I use Airalo eSIMs for data and yet get my messaged authentication factors to come into my WiFi-calling-enabled TMobile number and Google Voice numbers over WiFi on my iPhones.

I found out on this trip that the T-Mobile DIGITS app no longer allows for short code SMS messages "for security reasons". Since my S20FE doesn't have eSIM, I have to switch SIM cards whenever I need a 2FA text. Pretty annoying. Looking forward to upgrading to a phone with eSIM capabilities; the Swedish mobile provider I'm using for cheap data doesn't offer eSIM.

I often carry a WiFi calling enabled back up phone with no eSIM capability that uses a TMobile SIM to get those authentication SMS codes while the phone is in airplane mode but connected to WiFi internet. Saves me from doing the annoying physical SIM swapping thing. But then you’re lugging around a backup phone which is yet another thing to take along and keep track of.
