Advice for Nepal and elsewhere
I am a bit overwhelmed by the information on this thread. I am going to be traveling to Nepal and likely to Zambia in the next couple of months. I am a Canadian looking for the best option (likely a global sim). I would like it to work on my transits via HK, Doha, Dubai, Istanbul etc. Any suggestions as to which is the best esim provider. I am open to buying one that lasts for a year/2 years etc. Also, I assume none of these providers give a tel no for making calls/SMS.
Thanks in advance,
Thanks in advance,

I bought the Airalo Dtac eSIM for Thailand, $9.90 for 50 GB for 10 days, no passport registration needed.
But only AFTER I bought or installed it, they notify you that it's max speed is 15 Mbps down for a certain promotional period.
Up in my hotel room on the 12th floor, it doesn't even get that speed and shows 3G.
Well can't complain about the price. The hotel wifi, speed is good but they're blocking all VPN, both my OpenVPN back to my router and SurfShark.
Segmenting by speed seems pretty common among Thai carriers so while Airalo is convenient and cheap for Thailand, all that data for slow speed may not work for many people.
Buyer beware.

Was this (somewhat misleading) OTHER INFO fineprint there when you bought?
OTHER INFO Unlimited internet at 15Mbps speed for eSIMs activated from 15 December 2023 to 29 February 2024. It comes with 100 minutes of local calls, 30 minutes for India, South Korea, and Vietnam through the "00400" prefix, and 15 baht credit for texts and international calls
15mbps is probably sufficient for my roaming usage , unless one was streaming or downloading large files

Has anyone here tried AIS's 6GB eSIM2Fly?
I tried to buy one but hit a dead end when it wouldn't accept my credit card.

Right now this is my main travel eSIM due to the relatively fast download speeds while roaming. FWIW I am getting consistently better speeds with AIS than Three HK.

Way late to the game here but I was able to go to a physical AIS shop in Bangkok to get an eSIM and set up with the SIM2FLY feature. It required KYC but I am able to top up the SIM with a credit card from overseas.

what is KYC?
my understanding is that registration is required so they need to copy your passport.
you can’t just download their app and buy and activate the eSiM.
On a another topic, do you guys delete the old eSIMs?

I don't typically delete the old eSIMs unless it's a one-time use without the ability to recharge. I keep my Airalo ones for instance since it's always possible to reactivate them by charging in the Airalo app.

I'm still on Simple Choice due to an account-based international calling plan promo from ~9 years ago. I still get the 5 GB high speed data in T-Mobile countries, but I don't have the general 5 GB high speed data or high speed data or calling in Canada and Mexico.
