Windows 8 internet problem.
This is cat related. The cat stepped all over the wires for phone, internet and TV. TV, Phone, Internet etc work fine.
The wireless in my office has no connection to the internet. I took my laptop there to test it and the wire is dead. No problem there is plenty of wireless to go around. The laptop shows 2 more routers in the house I can use and lots of the neighbors which I cannot but I can see them.
On my desktop not so much. The only one it sees is the non functional router. I turned the router off and it didn't see anything. But I know they are there.
I also turned off the wired connection thinking this would force the wireless to find another source. It didn't but now I cannot turn it on again.
All of the online searches say that the wireless spots should just list themselves. It does on the laptop but not on the desktop.
Help!

Missing or broken antenna for your desktop's wifi adapter perhaps? I've come across (cheap) wifi adapters (PCIe or whatever the current interface is) with very poor range. Perhaps yours is one of them.

1. The PC that is normally in your office was connected to the router via WiFi or via an Ethernet cable or both?
2. The PC that is normally in your office can connect to the router, but that connection does not provide access to the internet?

I am having trouble understanding these two sentences.
1. The PC that is normally in your office was connected to the router via WiFi or via an Ethernet cable or both?
2. The PC that is normally in your office can connect to the router, but that connection does not provide access to the internet?

You have routers in the house that you cannot use? Is the signal not strong enough to get to where you need it?
But, the basic point seems to be that your devices can't find your router. This is most likely because the router isn't communicating. I've also seen my router listed as an option on my devices when it wasn't actually working.
I don't know exactly what you've done so far, but the first thing do to is always unplug the router and then plug it back it. This usually brings everything back to life. Have you also checked that the cable into the router is still firmly connected? What lights are showing on the router and what color are they?
