I have given up on the Google Fi concept if 5G is not possible, but TMobile's poor coverage is driving me crazy so I am trying to figure out if it's worthwhile switching to Verizon or will I just have the same frustration with them.

T-mobile has free international roaming at 128Kbps or 256Kbps (depends on the plan). But you could also purchase international data pass for LTE speed. 1 day (500MB) for $5, or 7 days (5GB) for $35, or 30 days (15GB) for $50. It is actually cheaper than Fi's basic data plan @$10/GB. Now if you travel a LOT, then the $50/line unlimited Fi plan is great!

What is T-Mobile's roaming policy like? My issue with Google Fi is that there are reports of Google disabling international roaming if the majority of usage is abroad. Unless I'm mistaken, I think a friend said T-Mobile has a similar policy. I just basically want a plan that I can use anywhere in the world and not worry about policies like this.

In that aspect, T-Mobile is worst than Google Fi. Google Fi never said anything about my roaming for the 2 years that I was with them. When I joined T-Mobile around Thanksgiving, my family went on a trip from end of Dec to beginning of Jan (for about 3 weeks) in Europe. In Feb, around the statement time, we all got TXT about excessive international roaming. So they are watching you even if you just signed up. I only roam about 2 to 3 times a year, so it wasn't a problem for me. But if you travel a lot, it could be a problem with T-Mobile.

I have to say that for my (admittedly very specific) requirements Fi has been my perfect company.
I'm generally uk based, but my uk plan offers me free roaming in europe, usa, mexico, canada, oz and nz. My uk line is an esim, and Fi is always in the sim slot in my iphone. While I'm in the usa/mexico, Fi is active as a secondary voice only line in case people in the US need me with all data going through my uk sim. I'm heading to guatamala shortly and with a couple of quick menu options Fi becomes my main data and phone account. I particularly like the pro-rata pausing of service, when I'm out of the US for a while, I just pause the US number and the billing stops. I do notice that the voice quality on the Fi line is very noticeably worse then on my uk line even while Im in the states. |
Hi all.
Former Fi user here... just recently re-activated. Some things have changed since, so wondering what to do: 1- Sprint & TMo are combined now correct? So there is no "switching" between them to get better service? Basically, whatever service (bars) I have, I have? No need for a Signal Spy app, etc to get better service in areas with less bars. Correct? 2- I have the new 4a 5G phone. It has an eSim and a regular SIM phone. Never had a dual sim phone before. Google Fi is the eSim portion and I have a new # tied to that account. I believe this means I can take my current # (with AT&T) and just pop the SIM card out of my old phone and pop it into the new 4a 5G phone and now I'll have 2 numbers on the one new phone, correct? Do I need to notify AT&T for any reason? 3- I further believe I can only use 1 number at a time on the Pixel 4a 5g, correct? How does one toggle between the 2 #s? 4- When toggling, I assume each # is tied to its own WhatsApp, Signal, etc., correct? So I need to sign up for those types of services with my new #, correct? Fingers crossed Fi has decent service in my area... reason I cancelled years ago was inability to place calls in many areas. We shall see if the years were kind to Tmo/Sprints network. |

Fi worked great in Turks and Caicos. T mo data only was not as good. Not sure why.

Google Fi cutting out
Hello FT,
I've had Google Fi for the better part of a year now, and in that time I've taken two extended trips (both about 5-7 weeks, one in Russia and one in Ukraine FWIW). Fi has worked great for me in general, and all of my other shorter trips have gone without a hitch. However, on these two longer trips, I started experiencing service issues after several weeks in country. It would work great until about 4 weeks in, at which point my cell service and data cuts out completely a couple of times per day. It usually lasts no more than a few minutes, though sometimes longer, and it would happen one or two times per day. It's not a huge issue as it always comes back, but it's very annoying, especially as I'm trying to work or do something else that requires my phone. I'm wondering if others have experienced this as well and/or have a remedy? |
Crete?
Crete?
Has anyone had recent experience with Google Fi in Greece, especially Crete. |

Is anybody getting the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra? Between the $600 credits and the trade-in of my Note20 Ultra 5G, the new phone is nearly free. It doesn't look like I'll receive it until early April. I'll report back after I receive it.

I've been with Fi for 3-4 years now, and ordered an S22+. The shipping date has jumped around a lot, between late February/early March/late March to early April. My new device shipped out this morning. I typically buy directly from the manufacturer, but the pricing was too good to pass up. I wouldn't be surprised if your device arrives earlier than projected. |
Just FYI. If you head over to the Google FI reddit group, you'll find TONS of complaints about FI's "service" but in reality it seem at their device fulfillment / trade-ins / device support functions are abysmal. Meanwhile their actual phone service is quite good IMO. People tend to conflate the two. With that said... I'd recommend NOT buying phones via FI (especially trades) if you can help it. I've seen dozens of folks who got empty boxes or boxes with bricks delivered to them where someone in the supply chain clearly stole the phone, but they get the runaround from FI.

Just saw this was moved so I wanted to follow up in case it was lost in the weeds and see if anyone has had a similar experience?
