True. I was mainly planning on getting it for 3 months. First and last month I have extensive international travel, second month nothing planned. So T-mobile will get a free $70 from me that month :-)

I bought their prepaid to try it out and in Nor Cal its not bad, but coverage is much worse than ATT and Verizon. However, data speeds (when it worked) was a lot faster than the other two.

Just to let everyone know, if you are switching from a Prepaid T-Mobile account to the Simple Choice plan, all positive account balances (if you are prepaying) will be forfeited if you want to transfer your number from the Prepaid Account to Simple Choice. While they are both T-Mobile, the two services are separate. This has been confirmed by an in-store CSR, a phone CSR and an online CSR.

Brief update:

Mrs. now in Bkk for holiday. Most of the time she's on wifi but able to access emails, use Skype and Line with her data plan. Nice thing is should the phone ring, the cost to answer is only $0.20 a minute.

That is good news. Will be there soon on holiday as well.

Usage in Leon, Mexico -- review

Was in Leon, Mexico for three days and used my 5S everywhere with the following applications:

-- 3G was the speed that I maintained
-- GPS did download, but I did not really use it as I work with a local who takes me everywhere. Will try in Rio at the end of this month.
-- Facebook worked just fine and the uploads of pictures went ok, slightly slower than 4G or LTE as expected
-- the AOL app took a bit longer to load but emails worked fine once it did

HUGE POSITIVE if you and your family have iPhones:

-- Wife would call me on FaceTime Video from our house thru wifi and I was able to answer the call in 3G and have a good video chat with her -- it would freeze every once in a while, but it was not that often.

-- Was able to place and answer FaceTime Audio calls perfectly with very good quality and this is a huge benefit since these calls are all free.

Did you get a data pass?

In Bali and Sydney plans works well. Use vonage app to make calls back home and it works well over data.

Hi Folks!
Perhaps this has been mentioned (back away trolls!)...

but I spent 2 wks in December in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. T-Mob worked in both places surprisingly well. Better than home! Minimal additional charges-- about $100 total for the month.

I'll keep service until travel slows, then back to a day plan.

Best to all!

Minor point: T-mobile has no service in Hong Kong or China. You were roaming on local carriers.

What is a data pass? I used the unlimited Global Roaming and Data feature.

You can buy a data pass for faster data speeds. While you are connected to a 3G network, the speeds are slowed to 2G like speeds. I'm surprised that the standard speed was fast enough for FaceTime video calls.

You are best not thinking it as EDGE. It has throttled capacity, but much better PING times.

Hmmm, do you know what local carrier you're using in HKG & across the border in CN? Speed - GPRS/2G/Edge or was it faster 3G/+ on what device? $100 for the month, is that in HKD (that's cheap/reasonable) or in USD (which would be on the "high" side in costs)

I have an active China Mobile HK/CN dual phone # prepaid Sim that works optionally on 2G/Edge data, roam & allows tethering - 7 day pass is $18 HKD and 30 day pass is $38, or by data used - 1 GB @ $98 or 2.5 GB @ $148.

T-Mo's Simple Choice Plan has unlimited free global data coverage & texting in Hong Kong & China, at no extra charge. http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage.html#globalcoverage

FaceTime Video was not perfect -- it would freeze at time during the calls, but it was decent enough to talk with my wife. Would not recommend for meetings.

FaceTime audio worked out perfect, though.

I thought it was always the case, but wi-fi calling to non-US lines (limited to those included in Simple Global roaming) will also be $0.20/minute.

http://www.tmonews.com/2014/02/t-mob...t-on-feb-23rd/

Calling back to the US while on wi-fi calling remains free.
