Mostly just keeping it around. Eventually I'll get around to selling it to the museum of failed inventions

A long weekend with nothing to do, and a 40% price drop on Surface Pro 128GB translated to one of these ending up in my hands a couple of days ago (along with the Type 2 Keyboard - which is perfectly okay to type on, tbh).

Some quick observations.

1. 1920x1080 display on a 10.1" screen is incredibly sharp.
2. Device is not the most ergonomically friendly out there; mostly due to the angle of the screen. I imagine Surface 2 Pro, with its two staged kickstand would fix that to a large extent.
3. Not sure of using this as a tablet device for typical "tablet" tasks and in all honesty, the pro might be a bit overpowered for that; though I can see a potential use when coupled with a USB 3.0 docking station.

This would make a perfect device that you convert into a full blown desktop by plugging in a single cable into the lone USB 3.0 port and have it running two displays, a full size keyboard and mouse (and the device itself does duty as a third screen on which sits your email/calendar/things you need but not need); and then, heading to a meeting or at the end of the work day, unplug that one cable, and its a easy enough device to carry without feeling like you are lugging a beast.

Plan to use it in various use-cases during the week before deciding if I stick through with this or put it on eBay. Getting this device the other day did prompt me to stick my MacBook Air on Craigslist and it sold within hours; recouping entirely the costs of this, so at least I'm not out of pocket on the frivolity of a second computer

LOVE IT

Tablet never appeals to me for the tasks on hand when I travel. Up until recently, I carry a DELL i7 with 16 GB memory & 750GB HD. I need the processing power but not the weight.
Surface Pro for $600, does a lot more than tablets can. I love the light weight & its ability to run Adobe Suite, MS Office Suite etc. I do need to get used to the soft keyboard and the way Windows 8 works. I aill add a large external USB3 SSD, then I am set.
BTW, can I add more internal SSD? (by swapping out existing 128GB SSD).

But they are the ultimate in-flight entertainment system

Gone are the days when I had a seat bag with multiple books, notebook, etc. Now I bring an iPad, iPod Classic, headphones, and I'm good to go.

I was packing a book to cover the takeoff/landing period but rules relaxation has eliminated that.

But of course...there's a laptop in the carryon for real work.

I just got a Surface Pro 2 and its amazing. Anything that might have been weak with the original Surface Pro and the earliest versions of Windows 8 has been remedied.

Really? I tried the 2, and it is just as crap as the original. I can be more productive on an Android tablet than the horrid experience that is Windows 8.1.
