Help- Nexus 7 causing WiFi network problems
I just got a new Nexus 7 and connected it to my home network. This knocks my Win7 laptop off the network and it cannot reconnect until I turn off the tablet. I've never had this problem before.
I have an iPad, a Galaxy S3, a wifi connected Roku and Tivo all connected to the same network and this is the first time this has happened. I can actually see the laptop lose the connection when I connect the Nexus tablet. When I try to connect, the laptop just resets the network adapter but it still doesn't connect.
There must be an ip conflict? I'm not well versed in these types of issues. Can anyone help me out?

It should already be the case. DHCP is the default, so if you haven't changed anything, DHCP should still be on.

What exactly happens when your Nexus connects to wifi?

Thanks, I checked and it is set to choose an IP address automatically. When the Nexus connects, this laptop loses the connection. It can see my network but cannot connect to it. If I troubleshoot, it resets the network adapter but it never connects. Once I disconnect the Nexus, the laptop either reconnects or I have to reset the router and then it will connect.

What are the laptop and router involved here?
If the router, laptop and Nexus 7 support different draft versions of 802.11n, it may cause conflicts.
Try and force everything to connect using 802.11g (54 Mbps) standard. The easiest way is to force the router to accept only 11g connections, and all your wifi devices will fall back to that standard.

Make sure you have the newest version of the router's firmware installed. Looks like there have been some DHCP issues with it.

Check the router settings. Sometimes there is a limit on how many devices can be connected. If in your case it is 5, connecting a 6th device will knock off one of the others. If this is the problem, the limit can be raised. You should be able to access the router settings via a web address.
Thanks for all the help.

By god, I think I fixed this. The firmware upgrade didn't do anything. I then set the router to Wireless-G only and changed the channel. This seems to do the trick. Hopefully, it won't affect system performance or screw up any of my other devices.
Thanks for all the assistance.

I just upgraded the firmware. I reset the router. Logged back in on the laptop. I turned on the nexus and my laptop was kicked off the network almost instantaneously. I'm now typing this from the nexus.
I've checked the router settings but can't find anything about number of devices. Any idea where I might find this?
Thanks for all the help.

This router predates the 802.11n final standard. Additionally, it is "compatible with some 802.11n features" (from the data sheet.)
With such crippled 802.11n support, I would just turn off the 802.11n and use it as a 802.11g router.
