help me find a great password manager
here are my buying criteria:
1. cloud based, so I can save on Dropbox, but NOT saved on the vendor's site or just locally...
2. open source would be a huge plus
3. can import from 1password, firefox, etc.
4. uses a VERY strong encryption standard (as Truecrypt for instance does)
5. works across mac, various mobile devices, without any real effort to keep things synced
Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

I'm using Dashlane with Windows and Android devices. I have no idea if it meets your needs.

You want it to automatically upload to the cloud for syncing, but not upload to the vendor's website? That rules out lastpass, which is otherwise a favorite.
You might be able to separate password management from cloud syncing. For example, save the password file to a dropbox folder.

Browse here, multiple options discussed in great depth. I personally recommend 1Password

Most password programs just create a text based list and parse it when you open the encrypted folder containing them. If you're familiar with Truecrypt, just keep them in a text file and encrypt that file via TrueCrypt (Using AES-256)

LastPass does everything you want, except it saves the passwords to lastpass.com.
LastPass encrypts everything on your local computer before sending it to lastpass.com, so they never see your passwords. It also never sends your master account password to them (they just store a hash of the password), so only you ever know your password.

Are you currently using 1password? (#3) Doesn't it meet your specified needs? I haven't used it, but from what I have read, it's one of the best.
BTW, if you can get beyond requirement #1, I am a lastpass user and I love it.
