Tripit Offline Access
Hi guys, Next week will be my first overseas trip using tripit to store my itinerary. However, I found out unless I have internet connection, I won't be able to access my itinerary on tripit
Is there a way to get tripit to store the information locally without syncing it everytime? I have the free ver.

+1. I have my TripIt calendar feed in Outlook and on my iPad; whenever I'm online it updates but it remains there when I'm offline.

It is an iCal feed - the device downloads it, stores it as a calendar and then TripIt has nothing more to do with it until new events arrive, which it adds to the feed.

Yup I print mine so I can refer to it. Usually lighter than the iPad unless I put stacks and stacks of content in an itinerary.
They give you options whether to print the embedded maps and directions or not. I don't print those because they're interactive so worthless when printed.
Instead, if I need to look at some maps, I take screenshots of custom Google Maps I created with pushpinned locations of my hotel and places I need to visit and then import those screenshots into a TripIt event. So I can attach it to my hotel check-in event and it could have a map with the hotel location pinned and its immediate surroundings.
When done, I also will save the itinerary as a PDF -- you never know if TripIt goes out of business and all your previous itineraries are gone. You can then load the PDF and view it from any number of apps. I use iBooks.

Printing stuff is not a bad idea. Especially addresses and phone numbers.
This used to be so basic I would never have thought of traveling someplace without a printed copy of the address. Recently I actually found myself on a residential city street after midnight with a dead phone battery and no confidence in being able to find my hotel from memory. I realized I somehow had gotten so lax that I had no idea what the address or phone number of my hotel was.

When I arrived in Munich from Chicago today, the app would stall trying to update itself - and there was NO way to display the stored information.
This has been and on-again off-again problem with this software. The developers don't seem to understand that we need to access our itinerary information even if we don't have a wireless connection.

At least on the iPhone, the tripit app itself requires an internet connection to get your itineraries. Right? So, you're out of luck there.
But, you can do a TripIt ical Feed and that will load into the iPhone's Calendar App. That data stays in your phone whether offline or online. So, you can have "offline" access to your itinerary via that method./ Admittedly, if you updated your itinerary online via the web or by sending additional flight/car/hotel/etc. info to [email protected] that new info would not download to your iphone Calendar App b/c the iPhone is not connected to the internet while you're abroad.
It's been a while since I set it up, but I think I feed my iCal feed into Google Calendar and then get my google calendar via the iPhone Calendar app. I am sure TripIt has instructions... Yup .... https://www.tripit.com/uhp/calendarInfo (NB I don't know if the "Apple iPhone and iCal" instructions will work if the iPhone is offline, that's why I use the Tripit->Google Calendar->iphone method at the start of the help article)
I usually go with the method discussed in the paragraph above as well as a printed copy. Frankly, while I have the tripit app on my iPhone, I've hardly every used it.

You can also save the TripIt itinerary from their web site as a PDF and then email it to yourself. Open it on the phone and open in iBooks or some other PDF app (iBooks doesn't let you annotate PDFs but otherwise is very good for storing PDFs).
Actually, I like the Kayak trips better, in part because TripIt has removed some functionality, like embedding screen shots and pics into your itinerary and being able to print it. Kayak Trips will send you notifications of any changes to flights without you having to upgrade to a Pro version like TripIt.

If you have a wifi connection at the airport or in the hotel, you can update the data on the road.
I make sure the app and the calendar apps etc are all updated before I leave on a trip, in case I end up with no data connection.

Nope. It needs an internet connection initially to get the itineraries, but then they can be accessed offline later. Works the same on both the iOS and android versions.

I stand corrected. My focus on feeds into the Calendar app and the printouts and lack of use of the iPhone App itself caused me to miss that, thanks for correcting.
