Yup I print mine so I can refer to it. Usually lighter than the iPad unless I put stacks and stacks of content in an itinerary.
They give you options whether to print the embedded maps and directions or not. I don't print those because they're interactive so worthless when printed.
Instead, if I need to look at some maps, I take screenshots of custom Google Maps I created with pushpinned locations of my hotel and places I need to visit and then import those screenshots into a TripIt event. So I can attach it to my hotel check-in event and it could have a map with the hotel location pinned and its immediate surroundings.
When done, I also will save the itinerary as a PDF -- you never know if TripIt goes out of business and all your previous itineraries are gone. You can then load the PDF and view it from any number of apps. I use iBooks.
