I think you can buy an unlocked Verizon phone (not sure) but ATT will probably be available in about a month if past timing is any indication

I'm torn between the iPhone5 and the Galaxy S3. I haven't used either system before. I'm buying the iPhone first and activating. If I don't like it in 30 days, I'll swap out!

Seriously though, what's the deal with not just being content to affirm your own technology choices, but needing to rubbish others at the same time?
Insecurity.

And it's hilarious to hear Samsung being cited as innovative.

Before they were copying iPhone, they were copying Blackberry.

Oh, and dear iPhone users - welcome to the world of fragmentation you always mocked Android for.
Faster processor, LTE, dual-band Wifi, new connector, sRGB screen are software upgradeable?

Plus, we've seen a bit of bill creep over the years (my fault, not T-Mo's, I know) that has pretty much made our T-Mo bill nearly equal to projected Verizon bill with two new iPhones.

While I've always appreciated T-Mo's cheap turn-on/turn-off international email (formerly all data) roaming, I'll miss it when we switch over (likely to Verizon) to iPhone 5.
Supposedly, T-Mobile will roll out LTE networks using the same bands supported by teh AT&T SKU of the iPhone 5.

Don't know when T-Mobile will roll that out though. They may not keep low pricing if they put up an expensive new network.

thanks...but I need it for foreign travel so neither carrier will help. I'll see what happens in coming weeks after the initial clamor dies down...if it does : )

Yeah, Samsung can't innovate.

Which is why Apple has historically always turned to Samsung for their displays, processor technology and DRAM inventions.

Apple may have cornered the market on rectangles and bouncy icons, but REAL innovation all came from others. Apple products rely heavily on the innovation of others - like Nokia, Motorola and Samsung. Your new LTE in the iPHone? The result of a decade of research from almost every telecom company in the world - all except Apple: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LTE_timeline

There is no denying that Apple has done something amazing with the iPhone, but don't let the flossy exterior trick you into thinking they invented everything inside that phone.

They never claimed telecom tech was part of their core competency (though they've bought up a sizable number of patents which make up the LTE patent pool).

Obviously software, services and UX are not part of Samsung's core competency, which is why they copied Apple, producing 150-page document comparing Apple and their implementation of the UI and UX.

So that's why the Galaxy S3 touts S-Cloud, S-Voice, etc. Blatant copies of iOS features.

Samsung has been producing phones for longer so of course they've produced patents for 3G and now 4G (though LG has double the number of LTE patents apparently).

But for incorporating those patents into the ITU standard, they promised to accept FRAND terms. Now they're suing Apple with those, because they have nothing in the way of UI and UX patents, which are the secret sauce that makes smart phones sell.

Remember the Samsung Blackjack? That's from when they were copying Blackberry just before the iPhone came out. Hey if Samsung used all their LTE patents to make a LTE version of the Blackjack, would they sell a lot of those?

It's a good thing for them Google came along and decided to copy Apple. The original Android plans were also focused around making Blackberry clones.
