Passbook?

So did you load some airline app and then it displays the barcode or a QR code?

What kind of speeds are you getting in the UK with it?

With the united app, you use the united app to checkin or get the mobile boarding pass and on the mobile bp there's a button to "add to passbook".

Saw a friend's 5 today.

It does seem a bit zippier but the form factor is kinda weird.

If one spends a great deal of time watching movies on their phone then the increase in aspect ratio with no increase in actual resolution is probably a good thing but IMO the negative of letterboxed apps outweighs the improved "cinema" experience.

For those who use the phone more for apps than for watching movies there is effectively no increase in screen size.

I know, I know - just as with Maps they will eventually get it to work.

An iPhone 4S with the faster processor, 1GB of RAM, and the same connector, etc. would have been a compelling upgrade, the 5 - not so much.

In short, no - I am not getting an iPhone 5.

I ordered a 32GB iphone 5 on Sep 18th and it arrived Sep 21st so that part worked great. But the iphone itself is somewhat underwhelming. My old iPhone 4 was over 2 years old and barely, just barely starting to show signs of age. So I thought I'd try the 5 even though I skipped the 4S. But the new iPhone, or maybe IOS 6 really drains the battery super fast. I think the early reviews about great battery life were from people who just took Apples word for it. There are loads of people complaining on the net about the very poor battery management/power drain.

Another huge problem is Siri. At first it didn't show up on my phone at all. My phone is set to English, but Region Format is set to France. No Siri. Then I set the region format to US and Siri arrived, But it times out on every request. Then I set both language and region to France and it worked! However since my French is accented, it doesn't work very well. I'm not a happy camper and I'm back to using my iphone 4 for everything but calls since I activated the iphone 5 for that.

On the positive side the CPU on the 5 is way, way faster than the 4, the screen seems brighter and even though it is larger it still slips into my pocket just fine.

Does anyone know where to get a Bumper case for a decent price? The only ones I've seen in the store cost 20 bucks.

Actually most of my apps use the full screen size already. I'm not sure what you are talking about? Google Earth looks great for instance.

Good for you, but most apps don't scale to 16:9.

Hey, let's keep it friendly.

doesn't "most apps" depend on what apps you use?

There's might be 200,000 apps out there that don't scale yet, but if you don't use them, does it matter? Eventually they will all be updated if they are still supported.

I'm getting app updates every day, which is typical right after new versions of ios with new features gets released.

Anyway, while I haven't bought one, I did check them out on Saturday in one of the Apple Stores, and the slightly lighter, thinner form factor I thought was really nice.

There was absolutely nothing about my post that was "[un]friendly". I am glad that the apps Stimpy uses scale to 16:9 but that isn't going to be the case for everyone.

I am willing to bet real money that more than 50% + 1 of all AppStore apps do not currently scale to 16:9 but as to whether or not this is a problem for a particular individual will of course depend on what apps in particular they use - which of course was the point I was making.

of course it was. I should have been able to figure that out from the post before this one.

Just got my first smartphone, iPhone 4S, coming from 6 years old nokia 6230i. IMHO it looks better than iPhone 5 . I don't need the latest and greatest. I've been using iPod touch so I'm familiar with iOS. The only thing that kept me away from smartphone was the monthly plan price. Straighttalk $45 plan eliminate that. I prefer apple to keep google maps but it's not a deal breaker since I don't use maps extensively.

Did you buy it unsubsidized? If so, did they reduce the price? I think it was $649 and up last year.

You don't have to upgrade to iOS6. Then you'll keep your old Maps, though you won't get some of the newer features, like Passbook and Siri that does more, like find sports scores and opening apps.

I got it used from Craigslist for $450 64gb. Apple store sell it for $100 less than iPhone 5. I might consider buying it new if they sell it for $600.
