Wouldn't this be the wrong time to buy a new phone as new ones will be coming out soon for the holiday season? HTC will be releasing the Vigor and Revolution 2 powerhouses in October.

Pro:
- Keyboard. Not as great as BB, but better than my old WinMo phone. And much better than the software keyboard on my iPad.
- Widgets. Turns out I really like have new emails, upcoming events, and RSS feeds displayed right on the home screen.
- I had to switch to VZW from ATT to get this phone; now I have much better customer service and coverage.
Cons:
- The Motorola exchange client is better than the standard Android exchange client, but not as good as the iPad's.
- The Motorola stock calendar app is as good as the iPad's, but not as good as the BB's. For instance - it lacks a way to add events in other time zones.
- The phone periodically crashes and reboots itself, which is just unacceptable in 2011
- While I've enjoyed downloading apps and widgets and games, I usually end up deleting them pretty quickly. Many are just not very good; some actually decrease the phone's performance. I think most users would probably be better served by Apple's tighter control of the apps

I do not think any particular time is the best/wrong time to buy a phone. New phones are coming out every week. There will always be something better about to be released. If a phone meets one's needs/price, I'd say go get it!

I chose the Droid Pro for just this reason.

That was kind of my thought as well. I am just going to make sure that I get the newest technology at the time of purchase. There will always be something newer and shiner just around the corner.

It looks like the press conference is now rescheduled for 8/30 (next Tuesday). I will definitely be following it although I familiar with the specs already.

I'm looking to buy a new phone as well. I was at the Verizon store about to buy either the Droid X2, or Revolution. Luckily, I went home and read the specs on what should be out in October so I'm going to wait a bit.

I'm waiting for the Galaxy M Pro. I've given Android a solid chance with my Atrix, but I miss my bold 9700's awesome keyboard (well, I REALLY miss my 9000's awesome keyboard). Too bad the 9900 still doesn't have Android on it. I'd buy one today - unsubsidized price and all.

Since we can be certain of the Galaxy S II's specs, with its excellent screen and processing power, I would say it is the superior choice if you intend to buy soon. I believe it to be an excellent phone. I have never used Android, but I have never heard any serious complaints. Your carrier will be the deciding factor. If you want to use Verizon then you can forget the S II, as they will not be introducing it on the network. Your choices for Verizon would be to either wait for the iPhone 5, or wait for a device with specs similar to the S II, such as the Nexus Prime. If you have Sprint, T Mobile, or AT&T then the S II would be my choice.
I hope this information was helpful.

It won't be the same S II that is being delivered on AT&T, T-Mobile or Sprint. If the speculation is correct it will have a larger screen and more processing power. Some have suggested it will be an American version of the Samsung Celox, which is sold in South Korea at the moment.

More or less. But the constant crashing and general instability is really annoying, and so I'm thinking about switching to the iPhone if Verizon ever gets a global version. (I would switch to the Bold, but I need activesync.) I'll be sad to lose the physical keyboard, but I'll have to get used to it, I suppose, since the candy bar form factor seems to be going the way of the dodo.
