Quick OT question? do you use "PageMonitor" to watch FT threads of interest. I set up Monitoring on a FT thread I follow, and though it says the page has changed there is no discernible changes to me, thinking that maybe the posters post count have changed, causing it to appear as though the page content has changed.
Can't you also just subscribe to a thread and it will PM/email you when people post?

Was #34 at my local Best Buy (probably the one that does the most sales in Colorado) about 50 minutes before they opened. They got 135 total. Actually took them until 10am to allocate all of them.

I went to my local BB today (again), but they had none. One of the employees said they were getting a truck tomorrow morning, but he didn't know if they were getting more. I'm going to try again tomorrow. This has become a matter of honor!

How many have sold so far? If it's really good didn't they just become a player? Yeah, they lose a lot of money, but now they're out there. Obviously, I'm not much of a business man, but it just has me wondering.

From what I've heard, it costs HP $300/unit to manufacture, so they're taking a pretty significant loss dumping them at these prices. However, this also shows the magic number for a decent tablet -- at $99, it seems that everyone would buy one.

I agree. To me, a tablet is similar to a netbook (with less functionality, IMO). If it costs me more than a netbook to buy one, I'm not game. If it's less (and I'm still waiting on my 32GB order with HP), I'll jump in.

I'm actually taking a serious look at the Viewsonic G, if I can't snag an HP. The HP would be fun to play with, but apparently there are serious (and successful) efforts to port Android to it, with Froyo available and Honeycomb pending. As far as I'm concerned, as long as a tablet has reasonably good battery life, a nice enough screen, WiFi a back-facing camera for conferencing, and access to the Android market, it's fungible with any other tablet. Woot just had the Viewsonic G for $239 (someone posted it here, I think). Costco has a Vizio that looks similar for $289.

* - HP is taking this loss, as it's crediting back monies to BBY.

I think some Best Buys will be getting an additional shipment this week.
Inventory Tracker - 16GB
Inventory Tracker - 32GB
Basically, if it says "In Stores Only", you better be within minutes of one, or else you'll probably miss out. Granted, a little bit of small talk with the BBY employees should reveal when they get their inventory truck. Once you find out that information, be either in-store or very close to it around that time. Fortunately for the Denver area, it's around 7am on Wednesdays and Saturdays. That means the inventory tracker is updated long before the stores open.
