Honeycomb is hardly "around the corner" as Gingerbread is is not even out yet.
Many (but not all) tablets will be updated to newer Android versions.

Those $120 tablets from the drug store? Not so much. Hackers devote time to devices with a lot of users, so those will be the ones to look for.

I dislike Apple. I dislike the premise which their products are based on - limit their functionality so that users can't break them. IMO this applies to everything Mac.
I carry a HTC Desire and am always tinkering with new ROMs.
Even so, in looking for a travel tablet, I have resigned myself to the fact that the iPad is the best choice so far. Android has caught up quickly, but it is undeniable that Apple is still the app king. For instance, it's almost 2011, and Facebook cannot push out a decent Android app while their iOS version is top-notch.
There is simply too much fragmentation in the Android community right now. Too many manufacturers pushing out too many devices running too many different versions of Android, with no track record of updating the software regularly.
In terms of OS, I do not consider Froyo ready for tablet implementation, and I don't expect Gingerbread to improve that aspect significantly. I am hoping for a good matchup between a Honeycomb tablet vs iPad 2 in some months.

Depends what your needs are. If I was going to be walking around while using a tablet I'd take the Samsung over an iPad (or similar ~10" tablet.) Half the weight makes for a much more comfortable experience. The iPad may be "light" but 1.5lbs is not really great for holding in your hand(s) for long periods.

If anybody is curious TapNTap the makers of the really poor software for the Viewsonic GTab are in the process of updating that really poor software.
Early builds look promising (and while not as good yet as some of the home brewed ROMS available for the device) and for the first time I could use the factory rom as my daily driver.

Definitely looking forward to future Android tablets. As it stands, the ipad is superior to any android tablet out there right now. But with the new tablet-focused version of Android combined with Tegra 2, I think we'll see some great competition, and I hope to pick up a model that meets my needs then :-).

As an iPad owner, I'm really not seeing anything major lacking from the Archos 70 and 101 tablets. While the market is missing out of the box, it's as easy as installing an APK to get full market access along with GMail, Maps, etc. Anyone interested in doing much video playback should also be interested in the Archos' media player roots and support for a plethora of codecs including MKV up to 720p. If my wife hadn't bought me an iPad as a gift (which I love) I would have waited it out for the Archos 101.
