This is a terrific idea! I think I'll tuck one in my travel bag. ^

I am using it now in a Vienna hotel room there the only outlet is 6-8 ft away at the desk with the crummy chair. I pulled up the other chair to beside the bed, stretched my legs onto the bed, put a towel on my thighs and all is well and comfy. Well worth a $1 and an extra $1 for the European to US plug thingee.

You can't charge your laptop via the USB plug. Not enough juice. You can power your iPod, or other little devices that normally plug into a USB port (phone, GPS watch, etc.)

I travel with a Monster Outlets to Go power strip. Don't know how I lived without it.
http://www.amazon.com/Monster-MP-OTG...ref=pd_sim_e_8
It's thin, trim, just enough cord to make difficult to access outlets in hotel rooms much easier to get to. One of my must-haves and lives in my laptop case. Takes up no room at all.

Rather than the full power strip, this item is one of my favorites:

It is a dongle that splits your power just before it gets to the brick on your laptop, allowing two people to use the one outlet. Incredibly simple and ingenious.

There's also this (Power Squid). Many other versions, probably less expensive.
I agree--you ought to share (or "they" ought to). They're not your outlets, but ones for all flyers. It's not a property right.

I'm a big fan of this little guy:

http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPa...duct_Id=400738
Available for ~$20-$25, and gives you three outlets (two if one is an annoying wall wart), plus two USB plugs for charging phones and such.
I actually got mine from the Best Buy vending machine right outside the MSP F Delta SkyClub, but they're of course available in stores and online as well.

Under $11 on Amazon now.

I usually travel with something like this in my bag, for just such an occasion.

Which one to buy?
I first saw these mentioned in a United thread last month, Your UA FF Toolbag. I look forward to having one at the airport!
Can anyone help discern the difference between these two (maybe) models?
What is spike current. Or maybe one is larger than the other? Thanks for your help.

They all appear to be different versions of the same product. Don't worry about the surge suppression - power surges (in the US, at any rate) are rare and modern electronic power supplies compensate automatically for them.
Spike current is the maximum current (measured in amperes, A) that the device can handle. Though I think a more useful measurement of power surges should be in Joules. Regardless, don't worry about it. Just buy it for the outlets and the USB ports.

There are slightly different specifications to them. The model with out the Q in is rated at a higher spike current (36,000 vs 30,000) and it appears to be packaged with a cable. I'm not sure the other one is not, but the belkin site does not list it as part of the package (though it doesn't list anything for what's in the box)
The other difference is the one without the Q is listed as
Comes with Lifetime Product and $75,000 Connected Equipment Warranties
while the one with the Q simply says
Comes with a lifetime product warranty

Another vote for the three outlet tap. They can be had at times for under a buck at flea markets (I've seen them as low as 25 cents) and I'll usually have a couple in the bag leaving the one with the person I was splitting the outlet with.
Though I hardly need it anymore, the netbook has great battery life, and I usually hang out in lounges where it's not an issue.
