Hartmann luggage

Hello,

I've went to TJMaxx and saw a Hartmann Lineaire luggage. 27".

The cost was 129$, but was marked down to 100$ (didn't find anything wrong with the luggage):

1) How is Hartmann? It seems like a great deal, but never heard of this brand.
2) What does mark down in such stores usually mean? Are they just want to get rid of these pieces or is there some defect I couldn't find? The person there didn't know if there was a defect or not.

Thanks,

Hartmann is a well-established American brand: the luggage is manufactured in a factory in Tennessee. They are specialists in soft-sided luggage. Their top lines often have high-quality fabric or "belting" leather exteriors. Warranties are usually good. I think Lineair is one of their nylon exterior group of products.

Stores like TJM or Ross can usually identify first quality or a "second" by coding on the price tag - you may to ask for a manager as not every clerk may know how to read the codes.

Yes, this luggage is made of nylon
It seems Hartmann is a good brand (owned today by Samsonite), but I've also read meany bad reviews about their nylon pieces. That they wear fast and look really "bad" after just a few trips.

Does anyone have experience with this model?

Hartman ceased manufacturing in Lebanon TN several years ago and now only has a office / warehouse presence in TN. I believe they moved manufacturing off shore similar to. The other big name / high volume luggage brands.

That is a real shame. The quality and workmanship on the high- end belting leather pieces was exquisite.

Hartmann - Samsonite with bigger price
Forget it, Harmann it is now rebranded Samsonite sold with more expensive prices. I bought last month new 7R Spinner 55cm and quality is not compared to price.

Warranty is now only 5 years, old Hartmann before Samsonite had lifetime warranty. Today I make city ride looking another 55cm bag and look at Victronix, TUMI, Samsonite, Rimowa, Titan, Delsey, Porsche Design in one store, and my next choice will be Rimowa aluminium.

Looks nice, but everyone I know has had problems with it - as checked luggage.

Yes, I know this problems and for checked luggage use 15 years old hard plastic Samsonite Epsilon model it is like tank. But as I wrote I am looking for another 55cm carry-on and Rimowa have best choice for me.

Old style Hartmanns
Photo of 3 Made-in-USA Hartmanns, 28 in, 26 in, and carry on sizes, showing
the wheels that affix to the bottom, and one pulls the bag like a puppy.

Great bags, but way too bulky and heavy, even the carry on bag for today's
travel style.
