I donate most of my coins at the airport or in the aircraft, keeping only a few of the ones I know to be exceptionally useful in a particular country, for example in making pay-phone calls.

Love the picture in OP. We own a spicebox identical to that one.

I carry coins in two places, one is in my Original Taxi Wallet that has a change pouch, and I also have a small change purse that I carry my USA coins if going over seas. When leaving a foreign country I use any unused money, paper or change, to pay down my hotel bill or to purchase a food or other items at the airport and charge the difference.

Looks like it's Ziplock bags... I was half hoping that there was some multi-functional currency sorter out there!

Props to all you who donate at the end of the trip - I'm normally using most of my currencies many times a year. I sometimes paid down hotel bills with cash, then have been caught out of my expense report my only claiming the credit card amount. I also have Yorkshire* blood.......

Small zip-lock bags should do just fine.

Another idea might be small plastic bottles. In fact, this jogs my memory a little: In the old days of film cameras I used to use the small plastic containers that came with 35mm film for precisely this purpose. Not sure where they all went.

Go to REI or Container store and get a few snap-top Nalgene vials. The larger ones work well for coins. I have used a repurposed Altoids tin in the past and that works pretty well too.

To those of you who donate: ^

I don't. For one very simple reason - I still need the currency. I keep it in Ziplock bags as suggested above. The only currency I dot have (for example) is Armenian whatevers. Didn't think I'd be going back. I find it extremely useful to have currency when I land. Sometimes taxi CC machines don't work, etc. etc. Never like arriving in a country being penniless.

In addition I do donate a large sum to UNICEF each year.

And BTW should be applauded for your role as a UNICEF Canada Ambassador and the work you do with that organization. ^

No more

The 1 cent penny has been pulled from circulations. Minting of them stopped last year.

I usually just throw them in my Suitcase and then throw them in a jar when I get home. I hate coins!

And every now and then I count them up and bank them. I just 'found' over $120 which was nice.
