alternatives to tumi laptop brief?

what are some cheaper alternatives to this 550USD tumi leather expandable brief
i would preferably like something that comes in leather and is dark brown, but please suggest alternatives that are not
i travel a lot and would use it for laptop and files

There are a million bags out there in that shape and size. Nylon, cloth, leather, pleather, etc.
But I believe there is only one that will look as good as a tumi. A tumi bag will easily outlast several (many?) of the less expensive bags and be worth the investment. Seriously, nobody is harder on a laptop bag then I am, and my outlet tumi bag really holds up to the abuse.
I say get the tumi.

but i think functionally a tumi would be better for my travel and abuse?

I tend to use my laptop bags to their fullest extent - I was going through a leather one every 18-24 months before it got too scuffed up, etc. My Tumi ballastic nylon has held up great over the past 20 months to the point where replacing it is not even a thought in my mind.

I even prefer not going leather and going with the ballastic nylon type - much easier to maintain than leather.

I have a Briggs & Riley backpack (3yrs), Victorinox laptop-brief (7yrs), Tumi nylon backpack (Mrs. DHG took). All are fantastic bags for different reasons. Neither of them are leather and both were in the $250-300 range. They have held up fantastic after daily use and abuse.
One of the other big reasons I prefer nylon over leather is weight - the nylon is substantially lighter and really makes a difference - especially as someone that has had some major shoulder problems; the more weight I can keep off my shoulder, the better.

Victorinox is always a nice option.. especially if you like the architecture 2.0 collection, or the Tourbach 2.0.. The lifetime warranty on select bags is a good add on to an already great product..
