Patching luggage?
What's the best way to patch a piece of luggage that's gotten a slit in it? Standard nylon fabric style bag, on the back of the piece of luggage we ended up with a several inch long slit in it (naturally, on the first flight, after we'd bought that piece of luggage that morning to replace a piece that had gone bad
).
I would think it would be repairable with something like a piece of similar nylon cloth and epoxy or something, but haven't found anything like that being sold.
Thanks.

Most any outdoor, camping etc store will have a nylon tent repair kit.
They usually come with either a self adhesive patch you can usually work in from the back side of the repair (if you can't get to it from inside the bag) and seam sealer to keep it from unraveling even more.
$5 or so. Or you can get the same thing at many luggage shops labeled luggage repair kit for $25

We have had reasonable luck with a 'seen on TV' product called Mighty Mendit.
To avoid shipping and handling fees if you buy online or by telephone, shop at Target or Walgreen's.

Hmm, hadn't thought of tent patching kits, I'll have to give it a try. I think we lost all the luggage stores in the area, but there's certainly plenty of sporting goods ones.
Something like Mighty Mendit I don't think will work without a patch to put on over the top, there just wouldn't be enough surface area along the cut to stick together again I think (no overlap of the material).
Thanks,
Gary

The advantage of living in a developing country, every couple of years I just gather up all the bags we have with any problems and bring them to the bag repair guy. Last time I brought him a dozen pieces, from ripped large bags, missing fet and wheels, broken handles, to missing zipper heads from my wife's handbag. Had them all back in 24 hours and the total cost was $60 or so.
