Hotel recommendations for Chiang Mai~
quick question to the seasoned Chiang Mai traveler...
any 4-5 star recommendations for hotels around $300 or less a night?
it's our first time to Chiang Mai and are going to be taking a one week thai massage course at ITM in Chiang Mai...
Thank you,
Patrick

Best idea is to do a search. Lots of hotel talk on this forum lately. That being said...
... you'll find every hotel in Chiang Mai has rates much lower than you're quoting. You'll find a great room for 1/2 that. (With the exception of the Four Seasons which is too far out of town to commute to class each day)
Do report on what you find, please.

Here's a start:

Just out of curiosity, does your massage training course take place every day of your time in Chiang Mai?
If not and you have two free days, I highly recommend spending a night at the Four Seasons. Yes, it's well above US$300. But I found it to be such an awesome and romantic place.

In the city I believe Chedi is the only 5-star. I've heard good things about D2 also.
Four Seasons is not in Chiang Mai - it's a good 30 minutes outside. If you're taking a course, that might not be so convenient.

Chedi - from $325
D2 (SLH) - from ~$125

Yaang Come Village
We were very happy at Yaang Come Village a year ago and I can certainly recommend it. It was still quite new but the staff were especially anxious to please and very helpful. Rooms were large and well (though to some maybe a trifle sparsely) appointed. It has a nice location on the edge of the busiest area (5 minutes from the night market) that is quiet and yet very convenient. Adjacent to one of the most often recommended restaurants in Chiang Mai.
Not sure what star rating it has. They have all the usual facilities including a decent restaurant, nice pool, free internet and will meet you at CNX with the meeters in traditional costume. It's really more like a boutique hotel of which so many fine examples are springing up in Chiang Mai right now. There are loads of recommendations about these on FT. Check out allthai's posts in particular.
