Im going to have to make my way through this thread. I will have 3 days/nights in bangkok. Was thinking of doing 1 dinner at some place really nice and the others checking out street food. Thoughts on that plan? Or is bangkok the type of place i should just do all street food for my meals.

Thoughts on that plan?

It all depends on your personal preferences, location(s), budget, time of day, sense of adventure, etc.

Food courts in shopping malls offer a decent variety of the same type of food you'd get from a street-based seller albeit in a cleaner, cooler (and potentially dryer as we move towards the rainy season) environment.

Open-air Thai restaurants (single specialty or broad menu) are another alternative.

New Android (iOS?) app, not sure if it's any good. Note the size (155 MB)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...roid.bkk&hl=en

I looked at it briefly; it looks interesting.

Fabulous ribs the other night at Smoking Pug down in Surawong. Smoked with Hickory wood 'till they were falling off the bone. Watch out, the full rack I got was about a meter long. Great drinks & beer selection as well. I didn't care for their sauce though. I wiped off most of it. It was too Tabasco-y, I'd rather taste the meat. Next time SOS - Sauce On the Side. I noticed a pop-up food truck event just getting going today in front of Amarin Plaza (Chid Lom BTS).

For those in town this coming weekend (April 4 & 5), there is a food truck/shop event at the K Plaza on Sukhumvit Soi 26, closer to Rama 4 Road.

I want to try "Meat & Bones" and "Banh Mi Boy" among others.

Popular Soi 38 food stalls face developer's axe

One of Bangkok's most iconic street food venues, Sukhumvit Soi 38, is the latest city institution to be targeted by the developers' wrecking ball.

That's too bad ... we have had many great meals here most recently just last month. Let 's hope they'd move the stalls to a nearby location, say Soi 59!

They pretty much operated from 5 PM until past 3 AM - some photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kalboz...57653424105662

Ouch, this one is one of my favorites. Hopefully they can relocate to somewhere accessible for me.

I suspect the problem, or at least one, is that with construction activities further down the soi they'll need to run many large trucks - and even concrete trucks if they haven't built a concrete processing facility on site - up and down that soi all night. There wouldn't be enough room for the street cart and tables, nor would you want to sit there?

Arguably Soi 38 is convenient given the BTS access, especially for tourists, but quite honestly there are a gazillion better, larger places in the metro Bangkok area.

In David Thompson's "Thai Street Food" TV series he often laments on the changes in the street food scene in his ~ 30 years here. But he ultimately confides that change is good.

The malling and condo-ization of BKK will probably force street food into Hawker Centers like SIN eventually.
