good/cheap Vietnamese
Not sure exactly what you are looking for re: good/cheap but I often go to:
VT Nam Nueang
84/3 Bearing 29, Sukhumvit Soi 107, 02-399-5292, Open daily 10.30am-9pm.
Another branch of a famous Vietnamese cuisine chain from Udonthani, well known for their namnueng (sausage with greens and herbs), with its delicious dipping sauce, and fondue talay. You can get four pieces of namnueng for B100 and mhee moo (fried pork) for B90. They also do cheap steaks and pasta if Vietnamese isn’t your thing. Be warned though don’t go hungry as this place only has 30 tables and is always packed which can mean waits of up to half an hour.

As with many Thai restaurants, it's probably better to go with a group of people, and order/eat family style. You can also buy VT NM boxes at a counter in Siam Paragon and eat at home. If VT Nam Neuang is packed head across the street (Bearing, aka Sukhumvit Soi 107) to Tum Tum, amazingly fresh, healthy, flavorful Thai food - they have branches in Siam Sq., Mega Bang Na, Seacon and other places, but this original restaurant is best.

There may be some Dim Sum recommendations in the other thread?

My personal favorite for Thai food is Love Scene, on Sukhumvit Soi 23.
Second choice would be Rosabieng (sp?) on Sukhumvit Soi 11, across the street from the Ambassador Hotel Convention Center. I've seen reviews that say it can be hit-or-miss, but it was good the two times I've been there.

Crazy Farang Award for best Tom Yum Goong goes to a place on Sukhumvit Road, right at the Soi 5 corner. Second place goes to Have a Zeed (?), 5th floor (I think), Terminal 21. Love Scene is in 3rd place in this one category.

Note that this restaurant has closed, and relocated. The premises is being renovated, there is a sign/map in the windows indicating the new location. I didn't take note of the new location but think it might be somewhere nearby?
(Pretty sure this is the place as there is a McDonalds on the opposite corner and I can't see McD's selling soup.)

Have not been to the Fisherman's buffet, but have been to the buffet for lunch. It's quite underwhelming. Nowhere near as good as the Ren's buffet.

Indian Restaurant in Bangkok Tops List of Asia’s Best Eateries
The contemporary Indian restaurant Gaggan in Bangkok topped the S. Pellegrino Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 2015, moving up from the No. 3 spot last year.
Tokyo’s Narisawa, which uses French technique with Japanese ingredients, kept its No. 2 position on the list, while Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet in Shanghai grabbed the No. 3 spot, moving up five notches from last year.

Brunch news...
Up and Above
The Sunday buffet brunch at Up and Above Restaurant at the Okura Prestige has been popular with foodies since the hotel opened. And now the brunch concept has expanded to include a Saturday version that takes place from 12 noon to 4pm. It is a capital way to spend a leisurely afternoon with family and friends.
To start with there are the surroundings. Located adjacent to the lobby on the hotel’s 24th floor, the chic and modern restaurant is clad in marble and possesses massive picture windows overlooking Bangkok. The serving area is purpose built, meaning it was designed to serve as a buffet, and uses a variety of heating and cooling techniques to keep food fresh and at the right temperature. There is also an open kitchen where patrons can order food a la minute, and a small terrace area for those who enjoy dining in the great outdoors.

Thank you transpac. I actually get the paper version of BKK101 but have not read this month's yet. Please let me share a dinner recommendation with the readers:
Opposite Mess Hall on Sukhumvit 51 (between PhromPong and ThongLor). http://oppositebangkok.com/
We actually "discovered" it from the travel section of the New York Times and have been back several times for the well crafted cocktails and creative menu. They have their staples but the main dishes change every week. There's a couple veggie options there for Mrs. Dirty to enjoy so we all leave happy.
