TG First vs. NW WBC

I'm looking at putting together an LAX-BKK-KIX-LAX trip early next year and am trying to decide between first class on TG or WBC on NW (change KIX to NRT above). Can anyone with experience shed some light here?

This will either an award ticket either way... at this point I'm just trying to figure out where to send the MR points.

Thanks!!!

Hi,

I have not tried the new WBC seats but even then I would go for TG F. A much more humane and pleasant experience than NW.
TG uses a 744 on this route with the 18 seats configuration in F. The food is really very select with Thai in F.

I agree that F class is quite nice on TG. But I guess your choice would depend on what's more important to you: Either TG's older seat, along with Excellent service, good food/beverage (including Dom Perignon, caviar, etc)--"The Flying Experience"......vs. NW's new seat, AVOD, yet only decent food and almost always forgettable, indifferent service.
Arrival and Departure times are almost identical; the F lounge in BKK is fabulous, and worth arriving early for, while the NW lounge at NRT is quite nice, a great respite from the crowds while in transit. Not sure about the TG lounge in KIX, or even if you need to de-plane in KIX in transit.
What you need to do is check to see which form of 747 NW is using when you plan to go. It switches a few times a year from 744 to 747-200. If it's the 744, it'll have the new, lie-flat seats with AVOD.
But if it's the 747-200, it's the older barcaloungers (just like TG's F seats, actually). In that case, it's an easy choice--TG. If it's the 744, then I would still go for TG, because it really does feel "First Class". But if you like your flat seat more than great service, go for NW. Have fun!

The Upper Deck on NWs B742 was formerly sold as First Class. I personally find these to be the best Business Class seats of any USA-based airline - including the new seat recently introduced by NW. If the OP desired the new seats, then he/should could connect via SFO, PDX or SEA (NW-coded AS flights).

Ive only flown TG thrice: once between NRT-BKK after NW cancelled its flight & reaccomodated me, and one roundtrip between BKK & SIN. I wasnt impressed (actually, I found the service to be rather poor) and would continue to go with NW. But my personal preference between LAX and BKK would be MH (via TPE/KUL) -- better than SQ & CX, IMO ^ ^ ^ .

That is another risk of flying NW, they tend to cancel flights more often than TG !
if you was re-accomodated, you probably flew TG C and then not on a 747 which is not considerred here (only TG 747 F is taken into consideration).
The same goes for BKK-SIN-BKK where TG only flies C/Y configuration.
I would agree that MH (if in F) is beter than NW as TG is. You cannot fly MH on * mileage.

Northwest sucks. TG has a great F class product even though its old and not one surly stewardess or steward.
I would fly TG anyday over Northwest, even in economy because I don't have to deal with their horrible service.
By the way, TG does offer personal video players to all F class pax...
