The Upper Deck on NW’s B742 was formerly sold as First Class. I personally find these to be the best Business Class seats of any USA-based airline - including the new seat recently introduced by NW. If the OP desired the new seats, then he/should could connect via SFO, PDX or SEA (NW-coded AS flights).

I’ve only flown TG thrice: once between NRT-BKK after NW cancelled its flight & reaccomodated me, and one roundtrip between BKK & SIN. I wasn’t impressed (actually, I found the service to be rather poor) and would continue to go with NW. But my personal preference between LAX and BKK would be MH (via TPE/KUL) -- better than SQ & CX, IMO ^ ^ ^ .
