Texas Airports [Master Thread]

We have specific threads for the following airports:

* DFW
* IAH
* AUS

(Links in the Wikipost above)

I'm working on threads for SAT, ELP, DAL and HOU

For threads on other Texas airports (such as SJT, AMA, LUB, etc.) we'll use this thread for consolidated questions.

I am flying out of ELP and BRO and was just curious to read other's experiences . I have spent a lot of time in Brownsville / Matamoros but never flown in.

Has anyone flown out of GRK/Killeen? I'm seeing some very attractive fares -v- AUS. From where I live in town, the drive is similar.

Service looks pretty basic, with only AA and UA serving DFW and IAH.

Just to answer my own question... GRK was pretty nice. Same agent checked me in, then worked the gate, did boarding, etc. I've been told she even helps with bags.
The airport has 6 gates, but they are divided into 2 sets of 3, and 3 of them are closed. So AA and UA use 3 gates. It is a fairly modern terminal. But once you go through security, there isn't very much. There are restrooms and snack/drink machines. But no shops or other food.

From where I live (near Ikea in Round Rock), the drive wasn't too bad. I'm guessing 50 minutes. Parking at GRK was easy. I parked in long term (maybe a minute or two further walk than short), and it was $8/day. Unfortunately it isn't covered.

Overall, not a bad experience. I'd definitely fly from there again, especially if the price is right.

I'd put this in a HOU thread if there is one, but I'll ask it here instead. Looking at the feasibility of a 5:30 am flight out of HOU. Problem is that the rental car return (National) doesn't open until 4 am and I'll have to catch the shuttle over there, check a bag, and then clear security. Do people think that that is a enough time at HOU? Or should I opt for the 7 am flight instead of the 5:30 am flight?

Any comments on Midland (MAF)? I'm flying in there to meet up with friends for the eclipse. I'm assuming I don't need to arrive ultra early for a flight to DFW.

I asked a co-worker who lives in Midland, and she recommended 90 minutes. What sometimes happens with the smaller airports is that the employees have to move from check-in to gate.

I appreciate you taking the time to check with a coworker for me. Very helpful.

If you don't have to check luggage and do a mobile boarding pass, you could avoid having to deal with a check-in agent and go straight to security.

I sometimes fly out of GRK / Killeen, and I've seen passengers miss flights because they needed to check bags and the agents had already move to the gate. Sometimes they need to drive the gate to the incoming aircraft and be there as passengers deplane, then work boarding.
