No, that wouldn't be fair to assume.

My fault though for not consulting the pre-existing list before replying to DallasBill. Regardless, the item has been sent to the tech team in charge of working on search ... again. In fact, they're probably cursing me at this very moment for passing an issue along of which they are already aware.

I was just being sarcastic for the no progress part. ;)

Well, they shouldn't be cursing at you, to say the least, for readdressing the issue that had been brought into light for more than 5 months.

Key-word search is a major part of any search, I assume. Failure to search by specified key word/s in the "thread title" field is simply unacceptable. You've heard the frustration from the mod teams.

I doubt this problem is that challenging so after 5 months we are still in the same place.

Can't perform search by users in the last 30 minutes or so. :(

The screen would freezes or just hang. I am also getting this error message in two browser windows:

"Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

* Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem."
Not sure if it matters. Two search I tried:
1. right click "FT handle" > Find more posts by "FT handle";
2. Top search (dropdown) > advance search > User Name: Show results as posts

lin821 Oct 6, 2008 3:11 pm

Same hung screen & error message when searching for my own posts:

Quick Links > My posts

Is search not functional this afternoon? :(

JOUY31 Oct 6, 2008 3:48 pm

Same message here ...

Mikel at Webflyer Oct 6, 2008 3:50 pm

The tech team is looking into this issue at this moment. Not sure yet what the cause is, but obviously we hope to have it resolved quickly.

As for now, still the same hung screen then "Content Encoding Error" message.

(Not sure if it's related to the data base error that occasionally happen during the last couple of days. I ran into once around noon today.)

Stormybot Oct 6, 2008 5:17 pm

Hey everyone,

We are working on getting the search back up. The issue is related to some other network issues we were having earlier today ... issues unrelated to Flyertalk. Hopefully our teams will have the issue resolved soon.

Thanks for the update.

Search By Posts IS Down?

Search is not working quite right for me this afternoon.

I got empty page (3 times) when I tried the following around 2:00 CST (w/ both login & logout). The screen had a line of message like "IB Beta Search X.X or something" showing up on a mostly blank page:

1. Click FT Handle > "Find More Posts by FT Handle"
or,
2. "Quick Links"> "My Posts"

I tried again around 2:45 after sign-in. When using Quick Links> My Posts, I was able to see the result but got kicked out from signing in.

Not sure if it matters. I was using Chrome when that happened. I gave IE a try with no such problem.

Was it a browser issue or was the beta search getting funking this afternoon?

Kiwi Flyer Nov 26, 2008 3:15 pm

Search has stopped working for me. Now returns no results.

Search is definitely hinky right now. When I search for all my posts, it brings up fewer than half of them. Almost all of the recent ones don't show up.

Is Search Index out of sync AGAIN?

Same here.

The latest posts in "My Posts" result are on 10/26/08, exactly one full month ago. For me, the result range are from July 2008 through 10/26/08. The search was working fine earlier this morning (around 9:00 CST). Something (either update or "downgrade") must have happened sometimes in between.

May I ask what features have been added in IB Beta Search to cause this new "improvement"?

sbrower Nov 26, 2008 9:24 pm

Just searched entire FT for "eharmony" because I know there were threads on the subject. Used "1 months" as the timeframe. Got nothing.

Missing Index in some fora?

I believe nothing in November is coming up at this time. October 28, 2008 was the newest date from "My Posts" search now. Some aged posts are showing up this evening, going back to my oldest ones.

However, the whole search result is still less than half of my total posts. I am sure I didn't make 1000 posts in the last 30 days.

Are there certain fora not indexed correctly as well?

lin821 Nov 27, 2008 1:40 am

Progress Report

Well, it seems the indexes are catching up but still not quite.

I just tried Quick Links > My Posts minutes ago. I can see what I post today (btw, Happy Thanksgiving! :)). My oldest posts are in the search result as well.

There's only one catch: (more or less) 1000 posts short in "My Posts" search. Over the years, I've had almost 3K posts on record. But the most recent post search only included about 1700 posts. I am guessing certain fora haven't been sync yet.

Is IB Beta Search still catching up with indexes? ;)

MayorMcKnife Dec 10, 2008 8:43 pm

Clicking on an FTer's handle and clicking on "Find More Posts by XXXXXXX" isn't working.

lin821 Dec 16, 2008 7:04 am

Search Index Problem

It appears the search index is out of sync, at least this morning.

None of the posts I posted this morning showed up in "Quick Links" > "My Posts." The latest post was dated 12/14/08. Not sure if December 14th was the "cutoff" date for now. None of my posts made in 12/15 or 12/16 was search-able.

Kiwi Flyer Dec 16, 2008 11:06 am

I'm seeing the same. Recent posts are not being returned in search. Looks like the indexing was stopped a day ago.

lin821 Dec 16, 2008 2:04 pm

Well, it seems the search index is current now. I am able to what I posted less than an hour ago under "My Posts."

Can the admin tell us why the search indexes keep having "hiccup" every couple of weeks? I had thought moving FT to new servers was supposed to speed things up.

Why the indexes just fall behind without any good reason?

goalie Dec 16, 2008 3:59 pm

search is totally "schrod" for me. simply returns a page only showing
"Search results provided by: ibSearch from Internet Brands" without any error messages such as "no terms matched...."

Kiwi Flyer Dec 16, 2008 10:27 pm

Search indexes appear to be not updating again.

I'm getting the same thing :(

This seems to be an intermittent issue. Sometimes it is up to date and other times it does not have recent relevant posts.

JuCo Dec 22, 2008 11:14 am

Search indexing has been re-started and should be up to speed shortly.

No Search Result & Not Indexing

Well, for the moment being, search is not indexing nor functional.

ETA:
Search is back at 9:48 pm CST.

Why does IB Beta Search fail to index properly every couple of days (during the last couple of weeks)?

Quick Links -> My Threads isn't working
neither is My Posts

SanDiego1K Dec 23, 2008 9:33 am

I am unable to search using both a handle and a term. I have been unable to do so since we abandoned old (as in House of Miles design) search.

JuCo Dec 23, 2008 2:34 pm

Ok, I've reported both of those issues to tech, though SD1K, sounds like this isn't a new issue.

thanks

JuCo Dec 24, 2008 12:36 pm

Thanks, guys. I've reported this issue to IB tech...and MyThreads should be working.

Stormybot Dec 24, 2008 12:56 pm

Searching by term and username appears to be working. SanDiego1K, I searched for the term RBP with your username in there and got only the threads that contain "RBP" that you were involved in.

lin821 Dec 29, 2008 4:36 pm

Search not indexing again.

Not sure since when though. My posts this morning are showing up but not the afternoon ones.

New Search Problem: Deleted Threads/Posts Turn up in Search Result

Just tried to use key words (2 words) to search for a thread in SPAM. The first 10 results were all threads with zero reply. It didn't seem right. I clicked one of them then realized they were all previously deleted threads by mods.

So for now, not only do the deleted posts are viewable in search (which BTW is a known bug for a LONG time), but the deleted posts/threads are searchable via IB Beta Search as well? :td:

Should we expect more of these "unexpected" bugs in IB Beta Search?

FWIW, I used the "Search this Forum", located at the top right corner of the forum frontpage.

JuCo Dec 30, 2008 3:49 pm

Thank you for your reporting that issue.
I have passed it along to the tech team and they are working on making sure the results are only live threads/posts.

Kiwi, when I perform a search on the term "recent posts" your previous post is included in the results, albeit not in the correct chronological order (another issue).

Is it possible the incorrect order made it appear that a recent post was missing in your search result?

Thanks.

I don't know. The search I was performing had hundreds of results. I wasn't going to sift through all the pages to find it. It was not on the first page and I hadn't noticed results out of order.

Search Not Indexing Today's Posts (1/8/09)

I only tried 3 newbie FTers' handles so far. None of today's posts (at least from this afternoon) are showing up when I request searches.

I don't know if Kiwi Flyer used key word search when reporting the problem. But when I report the index problems, I generally don't use key words search. I use FT handles (i.d. click on "Find More Posts by XXX" under one's FT handle). I am getting nil result from some newbie FTers that started posting today.

Search results provided by: ibSearch from Internet Brands

Nothing found to match your search request

Reason: Your search terms were not found
I didn't type in any search term. The only explanation I can come up with this: Search Is Not Indexing Today. Again. ;)

How often do you guys have to manually restart the search indexing? The search index has been falling off the wagon very often recently. Another hardware failure on search indexes as well?

Kiwi Flyer Jan 9, 2009 1:43 pm

Recent posts are not showing up when searching on user, or searching on term.
