Can you make the default search setting search both post body and title? It would be real nice if I could type in "exercise blog" and have the OMNI Exercise Blog pop up on the first page somewhere.

Yes, but it still doesnt provide an easy way to see which ones were responded to since you last checked. I guess a lot of threads will lose traction much faster than before now. Sad really.

It has "Thread / Thread Starter" and "Last Post" (time/date and poster) and unread are bold just like the forum index.

UA Fan Feb 16, 2008 12:21 pm

what is taking so long to provide the old version??????

stimpy Feb 17, 2008 10:19 am

After several days of fruitless and highly aggravating searching I finally had time to take a brief look at this thread. I really hope someone can bring us back a working search facility!

Kagehitokiri Feb 17, 2008 12:00 pm

the only problem i have is sorting or viewing by thread after page 1 of results.

although there have also been a couple times where the search didnt work for some reason.

Kiwi Flyer Feb 17, 2008 5:12 pm

My latest search returned many matches, however some pages had less than 25 results per page (less than 10 in some cases).

Wilbur Feb 18, 2008 6:19 am

Request: Is it possible to have the "Forum Jump" link at the bottom of the Search page?

Yes, but then I have to remember who the last poster was and what time they posted...

I didnt know about the bold part though...Im not sure I understand what youre saying. If it has a post that I havent read yet it is bold instead of having the small piece of paper on it?

karenkay Feb 18, 2008 2:59 pm

hi, wanted to note another issue. using 'search this thread' is currently useless, as it returns the ENTIRE thread as an answer, rather than individual posts. :td:

kind of defeats the purpose of searching the thread, although the red highlights are nice.

That's been mentioned before:) - use this as work around:

Click on Search This Thread, and choose Advanced Search. Enter your keyword(s) and then Show Results as "posts".

This is a known problem and it is on the list to be fixed (see one of my posts to KevinSours).

I know it's fairly far back in this thread, but it was answered back on 10Feb08:

The thread will be in bold type and there will be a new mail icon on the left. When you get to the thread there should be a new post icon on all the new posts in the top left corner. Also, there will be a link at the last poster/time/date (like the link next to your name in this post) to take you to the last post.

I see you beat me to the answer, it's time to restart Firefox (way too many tabs open right now, slowing it down).

I wish we had an ariline voucher for each time we answered that question here in the last week!

Yeah, well I wish we had a decent means of searching for answers on our own. But as a wise man once said, "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride".

Just adding my voice to the chorus: You have eliminated the ability to perform the one search that I use daily (and is most useful): to be able to see all threads that have received additional comments since I posted.

I would therefore have to say the new search is a big step backwards.

For a temporary work-around see my previous posts on using "Subscribed Threads in Folder: All."

thanks to ed1 and cheepneezy for acting as volunteer mods here and providing interim solutions. ^

would be nice if the ib guy, kevin (or someone) would check in again also with an update. :(

the other thing i've just noticed is when going through a multi-page search result, the pages you've already clicked on are no longer highlighted. that's not an issue with a three page result, but when looking through a multiple page result it's quite frustrating to remember what pages you've already clicked on. additionally, as someone noted upthread, each 'page' of results doesn't seem to have a lot of hits, is there a way to change the default number of hits per page?

I'm getting variable numbers of hits, and yes still not finding posts/threads which I know are there - search isn't returning everything

Usually the problem of missing results of threads/posts that exist has been an indexing problem or corruption of the data. Any ideas as to who might be handling the search problems this week? I think Kevin might be on vacation.

I just did a search, and the indexing seems to be grabbing things pretty much in real-time, at least at the moment.

I think the default is 25 results per page, perhaps there is also a maximum page size creating pages with variable numbers of results on some of the results pages. My search a few minutes ago had 25 except the last page, but none of the quoted text was very long.

You're welcome, I've been trying to help if I know the answers or work-arounds, or if I can at least figure out one of the two.

Are you talking about the red highlighting of the key words?

I wish they'd make it variable, my Google default is set to 100/page. It would be much easier on me to go through fewer pages.

Punki Feb 19, 2008 10:06 pm

Currently "Search" sucks. I am waiting until they tell me it has been fixed before I even try another search.

FWIW, Search is a tech thing, so TalkBoard really can't do much here, except complain if the problem continues.

magiciansampras Feb 21, 2008 7:25 am

Is that "save search preferences" thing supposed to work? It doesn't work for me.

Wilbur Feb 25, 2008 6:19 am

Would it be possible to add the "Forum Jump" drop-down to the search results page?

krobbins Feb 26, 2008 5:59 am

I purposely haven't used the search function in a couple of weeks, because it was causing me so much frustration. Have any of the IT guys responded about the search by name function that previously let you know what the last post was in the threads you've posted to, not just the date of your post? This is the most important search function for me - I don't think you should have to click on the thread itself to see if there have been any recent posts. And subscribing, while a sufficient work-around, doesn't serve as there are some threads that I don't want to subscribe to permanently, just want to check occasionally. If this could be brought back, it would be infinitely more useful than the current version.

Kiwi Flyer Feb 26, 2008 11:25 am

New search is still making life difficult as a moderator. Hope the old functions come back.

Why does search show dates and times in (I presume) IB's home timezone instead of the dates/times I have set in my profile. It makes it harder to identify what I've already read, or if I'm searching for a post or thread based on time of posting.

I agree, everything else on FT uses the user set time and date. Why can't IB keep this consistency in the search function? It's very confusing to have to use special rules just to figure out the real time and date!

magiciansampras Feb 26, 2008 1:14 pm

Any updates from IBB? I haven't noticed a lot of functional changes recently. An updates from behind the scenes?

TRRed Feb 28, 2008 2:30 pm

I am also wondering when the search functions, including the My Threads quick search, are expected to be functioning properly once again. Any update?

(In some ways it feels like the BK commercial in which they stopped serving the Whopper at a location for a day, except in this case it has been at least several weeks. (apologies if that thought was previously expressed))

Katja Feb 28, 2008 7:54 pm

Changing "sort order" from "relevance" to "post date", then saving search options does not work - the next time I select advanced search, the sort order is back to relevance, which is of no interest to me.

I don't think that was in the design, but I really wish they'd do that. I almost always want to search by post date, and I'd be happier if I only had to change it occasionally.

magiciansampras Feb 29, 2008 2:57 pm

Are we experiencing indexing problems again? I just did a search by a user name and the most recent (search by date) was two days ago, yet the user has had posts yesterday and today and the post I'm looking for was either last night or this morning.

I just experienced a similar problem. Grrr...

Ditto.

More generally search is hampering maintenance of the Hilton Family Hotel Master Thread, and I suspect also Canarsie's ongoing efforts to rationalise threads in the Hilton forum.

To clarify, I'm posting here as a general member. I have some FAQs (the Hilton hotels thread is just one example) and updating these is difficult at the moment, thus quality of information is suffering.

As I've said before, for the general FTer, it's just an inconvenience and at worst it will cause someone to post a new thread or not post an answer (like my problem yesterday) because it doesn't show up in a search of that users posts. For the MODs, it's a problem that can prevent them from doing their jobs.

For a while communications were pretty good, and I posted that in the ORF, where I had previously posted that the lack of communications on IB's part was the major problem on the search issue. Maybe it's time for the MODs and/or TalkBoard to start griping about the search problems and the lack of communication/cooperation from IB on these issues.

I tried bringing that up to TB, but the response wasn't too positive:

Yes, the search index has been "stuck" (yet again ) as of 27 Feb 2008, 13:xx EST. Search results do not include anything posted after the said date/time.

To test search index, you can use the following link and select [Sort by Post Date]:

That pretty much agrees with the time frame I was seeing in my searches.

I wish someone would get to work on the indexing problem. It will probably slow everything down, but this is getting ridiculous.
