When will search start indexing again? It's still not current.

Stormybot Feb 19, 2009 11:11 am

It should be pretty current now.

As a test, I just tried searching using "Stormybot" as the user name and "current" as the key word.

Nothing turned up.

chazas Feb 19, 2009 11:19 am

Search is not working. Searched "French Quarter" and french quarter, in the SPG forum. No results at all.

Stormybot Feb 19, 2009 11:23 am

Update:
Ok, it was up to date, but they needed to bring the entire search down for the next half hour or so to correct some other issues. It should be back up soon.

I don't think so. According to IB Search, the most recent post of yours is dated 2/10/09.

Still Not Current!

How many more DAYS do we need to wait for the search index to be current? According to my "research", the latest posts from searches are dated 2/17/09. Nothing beyond that had been indexed.

Does IB need to bring Google on board so the search problems can be fixed within hours, instead of months? IIRC, the IB (in-house) has been working on IB Beta Search for more than a year and FTers haven't seen the fix yet.

Terrible searching right now. Not up to date at all.

BearX220 Feb 22, 2009 7:40 pm

Search has been broken for four or five days, I think. It's paralyzed right now.

lin821 Feb 23, 2009 4:29 pm

How Many Days (or Months) IB Needs to Have a Up-to-date Search Index?

IB Beta Search is still not current as I type. It's been more (or less) than a week this time. None of "My Posts" from last week is shown in any search.

Is it really that difficult to have a search feature that would have a current index?

I believe it's been much longer than 4-5 days this time.

Where's the IB tech team? :td:

lin821 Feb 23, 2009 9:06 pm

Finally a current search index!

As of 2/23/09 10:03 pm CST, the IB Beta Search index is finally current, after numerous database errors and system slowness today.

Posts Only Partially Indexed?

I may have spoken too soon.

IB-Dick, when I visited your profile and tried to "Find all posts by IB-Dick", there are only 4 posts (2/17, 2/18, another 2 from today). However, according to the post count under your handle, there were supposed to be 28 posts. I don't know which server/database is not indexing correctly.

Maybe other FTers can try to look up your own posts and see if everything is current under your own "My Posts." As far as I can tell, "My Posts" only include 500 results on my part right now, which is far fewer than 1/5 of my total countable posts. The date range is between today and 10/2/08.

KVS Feb 23, 2009 9:49 pm

Today is a historic day: The [forever-Beta] IB Search has been removed and the classic vBulletin search is back (and working properly)!

FlyingOnceMore Feb 23, 2009 9:54 pm

'Advanced Search' is non functional if you enter a 'User Name'. It comes back -

True. But if you just perform general search using key words, you'll get some results.

I thought IB had assured us over and over that the Classic Search couldn't be brought back. I also remember IB said the system couldn't be stable with Classic Search. See how stable FT had been with IB Beta Search. :p

No wonder I am seeing the search screen looks different but familiar. Indeed, it's the Classic Search. :D

Most of my posts are in the moderator section, which you can't see because you are not a moderator.

This is not the classic search, but it is very cool that it's that convincingly close. That was our intention.

Yes, truly annoying when you're trying to find threads started by a particular user.

No OMNI & /PR in Search Results

OK. Let's call it IB Beta Search 2.0 then. ;)

Just find another "problem" with the Beta Search 2.0 with OMNI posts. It simply doesn't index posts in OMNI and OMNI/PR without log-in. At least not now.

In Classic Search Era, OMNI was still a restricted forum. Search as guests/visitors wouldn't render results with posts in OMNI.

Now fastforward to around 10/20/08. OMNI opened up, OMNI/PR created, IB Beta Search 1.0 in place. Search results would include all posts across FT fora. Users didn't have to log in to view or search OMNI.

Today, IB Search Beta 2.0. Perform search under "My Posts." None of my posts in OMNI & /PR made in this evening showed up. Not sure if the index stopped working after 2/23/09 10:30 pm CST or it's because Beta 2.0 doesn't include OMNI.

ETA:
If Search with login, posts in OMNI & /PR are included.

Not sure if this is the intended result/feature or simply a glitch in Beta Search 2.0.

There are still some bugs that need to be worked out of the system, and we will be repairing them as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience, and will keep you updated!

When trying to search for "ITA" (for obvious reasons), I am now getting:

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : ita
I remember a while ago when, for a time, the search facility used to have a limitation where it couldn't search for terms with less than 4 characters.

Unfortunately, I rely on the ability to search for those three characters to provide timely feedback to FlyerTalk about our product. Is this a permanent change?

I am sure you are hard at it, but please hurry! It is really frustrating not to be able to search by username.

In the meantime, click on the user's profile, go to STATISTICS, and click FIND ALL POSTS or THREADS STARTED BY USER.

If you are looking for specific term, for example, LAX or ITA; put quotes around it, "LAX" , "ITA", voila - results.

lin821 Feb 24, 2009 9:00 am

Just noticed that in the "IB Beta Search 2.0", the deleted posts are no longer visible/viewable. At least you guys finally took care of one long-lived bug with the newest update. :D

Advanced Search by User Name is still not functional though. Oh, and "My Posts" are still capped at 500 posts this morning.

Lin - I sincerely ask you to not call this ibsearch.

The username search is simple enough to fix - and we'll fix it ASAP.

Did we loose the different sort patterns for search (thread title, relevance, post date, etc.)?

Yay! That's good news. The better news is that it's now finding posts even the most recent posts by a given username.

magiciansampras Feb 24, 2009 5:37 pm

I try a search for "exercise blog" and I get nothing close. One of the first hits is:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/gamin...plication.html

Which does not contain the word exercise.

What gives?

Make sure that when you are looking for something specific you are using quotes to drill down into the results, kind of like google.

For example, a search for LAX is different than "LAX" with quotes; play around with quotes and see if you are finding the exercise blog results.

Thank you

Never mind. One has to spell "exercise" properly before one can test the system. :o

This does not help - what should it be finding that it is not currently finding.
