is it just me or has FT's reliability significantly gone down?

I remember a year or two ago I would never experience FT slowness, inaccessible pages, etc. It seems now this is quite routine. Just this morning some pages are taking forever to load, and some give me the "page cannot be loaded" error.

I can't help but think it is related to some of the updates that occurred awhile back. Anyone else noticing this?

A very timely post. Just prior to the entire site going down for about 45min...

No, I don't think it's just you. Yes, there seems to be lot more "issues" lately.

The same thing here!

It was loading V E R Y slow for me at times, but at other times, it was fine. (This slowness was most apparent on OMNI, but it happened on other forums too.)

This morning, I was on until about 10:30 AM. When I tried to sign back on about 11:30 AM, it said it was down. About 11:40, I got on. At first, it was fine, but then it S L O W E D down again.

In fact, it took me almost a minute to open this thread!

I was beginning to think it was my system.

I paid my $12 to get rid of the adverts thinking it would speed things up but I have been rather disappointed to find it just as slow.

On principle $12 badly spent.

Thats not true and you know it. I haven't seen ads ever since I invested $12.
The technical issues are another matter.

Slow opening, then normal speeds for me.

Yes, it's occasionally slower and there are certainly more database issues but really, by how many times has the population of FT members and lurkers grown during that time, and how much larger is the database of posts as compared to a year or two ago? I think it's still growing pains, and FT hasn't grown into it's current size just yet in terms of infrastructure.

I have another idea. It seems that the types of ads have changed, and they're taking longer to load.

We also get the once daily pop-up showing up multiple times a day (at least I do).

When IB purchased FT I remember posting that they were going to want to make money.

Well, this is one way. Sell more and different types of ads that take longer to load and get the core participants to pay $12 to browse ad free.

I know there are 2 ads - the Visa and Hilton, plus a survey pop up that moves around the screen that lock up my browser.

The ads have nothing to do with the database and I don't get any ads and have the same problems as everyone else. Sorry but I think you need to try again.

I concur with this opinion. As a premium member I get no ads and yet the speed and reliability decrease has been marked over the past few months.

Most likely the infrastructure is at its last legs given the increasing number of members and posts in the database. Hopefully the new owner has plans to upgrade the system.

Cheers,
T.

Ok, no ads, but no real usable FT either.

I believe dhammer was responding to your $12 badly spent comment. It's a nominal fee to circumvent an annoyance and has little to do with the site's speed/reliability issues as you can see from the other posts in this thread.
