Notification for posts to subscribed threads

Not really an issue, but a question:

Notification of a post to a subscribed thread includes the sentence "There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again."

What, exactly, restarts notification? Is it visiting the forum that contains the thread, does one have to open the specific thread, or is it something else like logging into FT?

Efram,

For me, it seems to be actually opening the thread in question....

I have occasionally opened a forum... but did not click on the thread I was subscribed to... came back the next day... and saw that more posts has been made... but I did not get another subscription email.

Of course, it could have been total luck...

I think there's a variety of theories around about this. I posted mine here a couple of days ago, although there are others in that thread and I don't claim to have any specialist knowledge to support my theory.
