mobile account help

Hello

I was changing some options in my flyertalk mobile account today, and
apparently changed the display mode or something. I changed something that enabled a very very simple WAP mode that I can not use from my iPhone (has text prompts that would be used from a simple number-only keypad on a phone, no links to click). I would like to get back to the HTML type pages that display nicely on my iPhone.

Is someone able to reset my mobile account to default display
settings? (I don't need a password reset, I can use the non-mobile
site just fine)

Thanks
Jim

omahajim, would you be able to post a digital photo of what you are seeing?

I gather that you chose the 'Series 60' WiStyle which is designed for Series 60 devices. This style should be compatible with all WAP 2.0 devices except for the iPhone (as it seems). I will inform the admin on how to correct the issue that you are experiencing.

That's correct, I couldn't remember the name of the option I selected. iPhone must be the only device of its type that cannot display/provide a keyboard in order to select one of the menu choice numbers. The iPhone's keyboard will only appear in the browser if there is an HTML text entry box in a form, it won't work for the numerical input styles of the series 60 menu.

I don't have another digital camera with me at the moment (other than the phone) so I will see what I can do.

Thanks
Jim

The talkboard elections announcement contains improperly coded linked urls. As such, the wap site is unable to translate these regular ft links into wap ft links. Can you examine this issue and edit the post accordingly?

Is there any chance this can be fixed? It is still using the Series 60 menu on the iPhone for me, I can't change it back (because there is nothing to click, and you can't force a keyboard on an iPhone for numeric button presses if there are no entry fields).

The easiest thing to do is to grab a freind's cell phone or PDA and navigate to www.flyertalk.com/wap on their device. Login, fix your settings, logout --> iphone happy again.

Nokia E90

I am using a Nokia E90. It works but only in full web-mode, not as a Wap version. Anything I can do? Its very very slow, since the built in Opera browser seems to have probs dealing with the reg. FT version. (posting this from E90.)

Which url are you using to access the wap site?

Invalid license Id???

Down on multiple deices. Fails right after login. I miss wap, but regular ft is running faster than it used to on opera mini.

civicmon Dec 20, 2007 8:09 pm

I think the whole vbulletin WAP thing isn't working.. another large forum on the same interface isn't working.

cielodome Dec 21, 2007 8:13 am

Any idea as to when the ERROR: INVALID LICENSE ID issue will be fixed? I sure miss FT WAP!:(

wap.blackberryforums.com is also down. Haven't tried using Opera Mini, but the last time I used it when this happened, it was too flaky to use for very long (couldn't stay logged in, which meant I couldn't read OMNI :().

Agreed, Opera still has the login cookie issue. The latest release of OperaMini 4.0 is quite speedy for reading the other forums. As for OMNI, you are relegated to the internal BlackBerry browser which struggles even in its latest incarnation on the Pearl 2 (8130.)

Grab a Windows Mobile 6 or Palm OS device and use it for a few days until the mess is cleaned up ;)

i can log in just fine and it brings me to the "main list" but one i access any link (such as "my forums"), i'm brought back to the log in screen. if i log i again,, i am brought to the page of the link which i clicked before (in this example, i now see a list of my forums) but when i access any of the links to see one of my subscribed forums, i'm brought right back to the log in screen. :confused:

i'm using a nokia 6161 with the correct settings from my provider and i have tried both www.flyertalk.com/wap and http://mobile.flyertalk.com/ and they both produce the same error where i keep getting returned to the log in screen

I logged in on my old wap 1.0 device again while outside the us. Now I am stuck with the yucky black+white super basic version of ft wap even though I am using my crackberry again. Eek! I hate it when it does this!

When I view mobile FT using my BlackBerry, the left hand margin for the text in each post appears to be set by the poster's name at the top of the post. So I end up with a long, narrow column of text at the right hand side of the page. This ha not been a problem on other blackberries. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Mrp Alert Mar 30, 2008 2:32 am

Try using Opera Mini instead.

Series 60 on iPhone issue. Please help!

I was playing with the options of Flyertalk mobile on my iPhone and changed the theme(?) setting to "Series 60". Now everything is displayed in text only and I cannot input anything to change the option. Can the admin please reset this for me?

Thanks!

What error are you receiving? Have you checked the Opera website on your PC for installation instructions?

As for me, FT WAP is useless the last 2 days for posting replies. Clicking the Post button does nothing in the internal web browser. Using Opera Mini, I get repeated XML parsing errors. When I reparce as HTML, the pages display. Posting still does not work.

Maybe even easier: I just noticed that I can log in from my laptop to www.flyertalk.com/wap

You used to not be able to do that, so I don't know if this is a bug or a feature....

I've still not been able to change my mobile flyertalk account back from Series 60 to something that is compatible with my iphone.

Now that the WAP site is accessible through a standard web browser, I've tried to login and "fix" this iPhone problem. But still no joy, in Firefox all I get is a page full of XML tags and text that won't allow me to get to the menu and change the setup.

Can SOMEONE on Flyertalk PM me that might be able to help fix this for me? Anyone? Bueller?

I'll give you access to my FT account, so you can try to change the settings from another WAP device. After which I'll change my account password ;). I will be grateful to you for your help.

THANK YOU

i had the same problem and finally got a solution. create a new file on your desktop with a .html extension (ie test.html)

paste this into the file:
Code:

<form action="http://gallery.flyertalk.com/wap/insertpref.php" method="post">
-
        <div class="tdiv">
<div class="ttitlediv">WiStyles</div>
-
        <div class="forminputtext">
<small>Wireless Forum Themes:</small>
</div>
-
        <div class="containerPOSTER">

<div class="spacer"/>
</div>
-
        <select name="WiStyleP">
<option value="default" selected="selected">default</option>
<option value="Series60">Series60</option>
</select>
<br/>
<input type="submit" value="»Update"/>
</div>
</form>

first goto wap site on your pc browser and login. then open the file you just created and click update.

I am running WM6 Professional on my HTC Touch (XV6900) and it seems to be working fine. I do have one question regarding when you read posts on a thread. Currently it displays them with the OP first and so on like it normally does viewing online. Is there a way to reverse the chronological order so the newest post on a thread appears first?

EDIT: I didn't catch that bolded part above, so it may not be the same, or you weren't logged in while on the wireless access, so first make sure you're logged on and if it doesn't, switch it in options. BTW, it's not the default, so you reset it to the newest on top option at some point.

Second Edit:I didn't realize that, unlike most wireless sites, FT redirects you back to regular FT if you attempt to access it via a non wireless device, but my suggestions that you make sure you're logged in and if that doesn't do it, try the options in MyFT still stand.

The wireless access seems to follow the same preferences that you have set for the regular site because mine starts with newest post on top when I access the wireless site on the computer.

Go your "MyFlyerTalk" and click on "edit options" and scroll down to:

Thread Display Mode
Here you can choose the display mode for threads. For a full explanation of the modes, please view this help page.
Thread Display Mode:
and select "Linear - Newest First" and it should start with the newest post on that thread.

One Caveat: This will probably also change your preference on your computer access to the regular site as well. I can't test this on a wireless device, so I can't be positive.

RSSrsvp Aug 4, 2008 9:33 am

Actually I like reading the oldest post first when viewing from my home computer. It is only when I am using my PDA phone that I would like the order reversed. I am logged in with my PDA phone and it is painful to scroll down an entire thread, especially multi page ones to get to the most recent post. I wish that there was a way to just view this reversed on the wireless device.

There is a new icon to the right of each topic. Click that and it will take you to the last post in the thread. Did this work for you?

GoingAway Aug 4, 2008 4:45 pm

Okay so I'm very new to the handheld/mobile world. I use the icon to get to the last message, but when I get to the end of that post (could be multi-page), I can't get back to the thread or the previous post without going all the way back to the menu and working my way back to the particular thread ... what am I missing?

Also its nice that there is a "next page" option, but a previous page would be better, especially given the fact that you jump to the end of the thread to read the last post then realize you haven't seen the one before that, etc.

Different devices have different shortcuts to navigate webpages. On BlackBerries, you can press t or b for top/bottom. On many other devices, you can use your volume keys to pageup/pagedown. Without knowing your device, that is the most I can offer as advice.
